I am missing the former spirit of elektron-users.com :-(

All the while not saying where to turn it off at lol. A little frustrating, I know. Tip: it’s under the joystick setup :zonked:

This was one of the things I liked about E-U when I first joined, especially after watching Ableton Forum gradually attract more and more entitled whiners and BLOCK CAPS COMPLAINERS etc.
I haven’t noticed anything too bad on here apart from todays homophobia/racism post from someone, which was clearly not on. The biggest omission on here is the lack of :next level: and :knowledge dropped: smileys

I think the reality is that elektron is reaching a wider audience now than it did back in the “good old days” so there are more people [myself included] who just got into elektron gear looking for a foot in the door to the complex under-the-surface stuff as opposed to old pros who can drop science.

I also think now that elektron is reaching more people there are a fair few people who pick up a couple machines based on hype cos they’re supposed to be this rad thing and then get bummed out on “limitations” or that they don’t do some specific “obvious” thing right out of the box. Its the difference between explorers who want to twiddle knobs and make shit from scratch and kids who want a new toy to make music for them on some “I paid a lot of money for this so it should be easy” shit. That’s life.

For myself I caught the elektron bug hard after picking up a machinedrum a while back and I now own all four machines [I may pass on the RYTM when it drops but that’s a discussion for another time/ place]. whatever their "limitations’ may be they work great for my purposes and while i’m not a pro yet i’m having a lot of fun finding my way.

If you want a better world/ board:
Old heads, be forthcoming with knowledge and patient with the noobs.
Noobs, be respectful and learn your shit. When you gain knowledge pass that shit down.

Racism, homophobia and shit talk is whack… take that shit to the comments on youtube.

Every place is a peculiar place. So this goes to Elektron-Users and Elektronauts.

I like this, i am lucky i didn’t encounter those bad posts…cos i get angry quick but soon remain reflections instead of rage…and i agree about what is happening on global scale. Infact here i see a lot mooore people asking for obvious things that are already written in the manual coming with the box…
Music is not evolving to a state where it is more–simple-to-do-becuase-of-technology…it’s just evolving----------so our habits should too (in regards of technology/machines).

But i also understand (happens to me too) that some tiny functions can be missed…and patience is a clever way to evolve.

Big love to the Elektronauts and Not , because We are some part of this going-multiform-music-generation (age doesn’t apply here=)

d^:^b

My view is this: I enjoyed E-U while I was there, and I’m enjoying Nauts now. It kind of mirrors the new generation of Elektron boxes - the black boxes, because without these changes and updates, the only thing we had to look forward to in the Elektron universe is…stagnation. I kind of prefer vitality to stagnation, so it’s all good…

Science Labs were probably my favourite part of the Elektron-Users site. They would get people creating music and sharing, which I find so much more fulfilling than taking part in endless debates.

In spirit of this thread, I have created an Octatrack Science Lab thread:

OT Science Lab: Remix the Worst Band Ever

Hopefully we will see more Science Labs in the future.

+1. I’ve been considering setting up a MnM Science Lab but I’m about to go out of town, so it seemed a little silly to make one I won’t participate in :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think one key different is that the new forum is at least partly viewed as a direct conduit for feedback. Also perhaps there is an expectation of increased responsiveness based on this feedback and a degree of angst which accompanies this expectation.

As noted a user base shift is also occurring. The development of boutique digital instruments is what I associate with Elektron. Commencing with the Analog 4 a new and diverse group of users have been attracted to Elektron with different needs and ideas.

This Forum is only missing one thing and it isn’t cowbell…

Girls

What ever happened to Papertiger?, she was great

i have noticed a difference, over there some guy who went by husc and another, arse crack, would comment on all me posts,

always got messages like this…

" I can no longer listen to your soundcloud page, for it’s filled with borderline pornographic images and might cause ‘soundcloud’ to be completely flagged and blocked here at work. "

"I think I defended your humor in a thread a while back but now… I regret it. You sorta seem like a jerk.

However… great tracks. I no shit really do see these as innovative. And good titles too. So A+ on the tracks. C- on the interpersonal skills."

great times

When I first found EU it was a real eye (ear), opener . Full of positive, adventurous , knowledgable, humorous & helpful folk, unlike any other forum I’d visited…but times change!
The nature of current machines has changed too & Elektron have made it clear that it’s a ‘New Line’.
The MD & MNM were veritable adventure playgrounds, being very flexible, almost modular in design & this provided Eureka moments that people felt compelled to share & explore!
The same was true of the OT for most people though many experienced unexpected headaches!!!
The new line are much more straight forward, that’s not to say they can’t be complex but, well…they’re different & this leads to different experience which in turn is reflected on the forum.
Elektronauts will never be EU, it can’t be! The migrants & Elektron themselves are further down the timeline now. Elektron are no longer the quirky new kids on the block, they’re established now!

The joy of exploration, learning & sharing made EU great & there’s no reason that can’t happen here, it is in places!

One last thing, & I’ve stayed quiet in the past!
This forum is about music creation & exploration utilising Elektron machines.
It’s NOT somewhere to drive home your political/religious views or stamp your model of the World on other users!

Revelation 3:15-16

Yes, the forum is about music creation,
But the full extent of human life is not always only about music creation forum escapism.

Oh you forgot the one about being a blatant homophobe…

I am sorry but a forum should not need the presence of women for it to be kind, considerate, nurturing and positive.
If we can’t at least show a base level of civility and respect for on another then what is the point in meaningful social discourse ?
The last forum would not have existed without the likes of people like Ryan Fabulon and we all did well to honour the memory of someone very generous through an environment if nurture and mutual respect.
Call it what you will but since Elektron have gone all “analog” a brackish and boorish mentality has swept through these parts.
I for one don’t have a panacea for what ails the forums here, that can only come from a point of exercised self restraint and an appreciation for the fact that we are all multifaceted individuals with divergent points of view.
Sadly it seems that to many threads end up in useless dick slinging and insults.
There are a lot of wonderful people here and I am all for freedom of speech but it seems showing common courtesy to your fellow man is a tall order for some individuals on here.

Yeah, certain attitudes sometimes flourishing here at Elektronauts are obstacles to our ambition for this to be a really good forum. This site is also becoming more and more populated - which is a good thing - but at the same time that means it’s harder to keep track of the quality of all posts. I’m doing my best, but there are a lot of other things at Elektron that I need to attend to.

I think previous posters are right: more mods are needed. This should be a good first step making this place less rowdy. If you are interested, please PM me!

The horror…

Agree 100% the (good) vibe is missing and its got nothing to do with old users not carrying it on as AFAK we’re out numbered and as I see some influential users got fed up one way or another (TIB and TAREKITH to name but 2) … I don’t think its any accident I don’t see many old users particularly those (very helpful) moderators online here at all.

Also agree its down to these boxes no longer being very niche products like they where even a few years back was it? Before A4 anyway.

As far as I can tell, Most of the hostility and bad vibe here was born out of the “new gear” threads recently and the prolonged waiting (speculating) about the A4 OS UPDATE and the now AK… Oh then the magic sealed box. I’ll bet those threads spread like wild fire, and as soon as users from places like gear sluts get a sniff of disagreements they want some. . I asked in those threads Where are the moderators at?? Which got ignored.

Lots of bad vibes created there has leaked into the whole forum IMO and some users blatantly post for reactions… There should be a post per 10 minutes rule. Most people would benefit from that as a cool down (comprehending) period or even just a chance to properly read posts first.

I’ll hold my hands up to using sarcasm, its a personality trait where I realise the humour gets lost on forums a lot of the time and I should learn to leave it out… But then again where’s the fun gone? Why take yourself so serious…

Leon.

wascal makes an excellent point

I’ve been around forums since they came into existence and I really don’t see a lot of hostility here.

the “spirit” of the forum has to do with its userbase and their contribution (what they make it)…just my personal opinion but I see some really good community here

also, changes over time are kind of a given, people get excited about things, they contribute, and that excitement may die off and/or other things demand their time…this is not abnormal on a forum

that’s one of the great things about forums, as long as they stay around, the treasure of knowledge is preserved for new people

Is it too much coding effort to create a system where users rate other users (akin to Liking or Disliking forum comments, or just rating people in general)?

If someone consistently talks garbage then any higher ranking forum member (i.e: the number of positively ranked posts you make + the time you’ve been a member gives your ranking more weight) has the ability to temporarily suspend or block annoying users from the discussion / forum.

I know it could be open to abuse but I think in the long run it would work out fair for all concerned AND save individuals the responsibility of being moderators (a duty which can be a total time sink).
