Why is Overbridge so important to you?

I have zero interest in it

All the above plus infinite modulation options with Max 4 Live LFOs. Daw automation of the crossfader, just off the top of my head. The lack of outs is the main thing.

If you can’t see why people are thirsty for OB in the OT then its advantages clearly don’t fit your workflow. I am assuming you are not DAW-based, because if you were I can’t see how you could not want it.

On the upside for you, it ain’t coming.

obviously you don’t since it doesn’t exist.

Since the OT was created as a performance tool (on stage) there’s no need for sophisticated DAW support, I think. I would make sense if it had a functionality like OctaEdit - for use as an OB-admin-tool.

OB on AR/A4 became essential for me. Port saving is an important aspect, more important for me is sync support, easy automation access, an intuitive GUI and flexible audio routing. So sad that OB still lacks serious sample management, not to talk about a graphic step sequencer.

The integration with Ableton, to transfer sound in and out of the box would be my number one. But, I only have a Digitakt. And I wonder if using my Digitakt with Ableton would give me access to having a very high quality sound card for Live? The D/A converters on Elektron products could improve the sound of all my Ableton productions, right? Oh, and just recording my patterns into the timeline in Ableton would make it easier to record and mix down tracks, not to mention using Maschine, Reaktor, and all of my VST’s in the mix. I see the computer as a tool, just like any other drum machine or synth.

Fair enough

I don’t use it with my AR and A4 and therefore would not use it if it were available for the OT. For me, it’s too complicated to set-up and the sync isn’t as tight as I’d like it to be.

I’ve shared about this in the past

How does the Digitakt differ from the Octatrack in this sense?

  1. Back and Forth Sample / Sampling in a session DAW / OT (in STEREO)

  2. Obviously Sync

  3. Total recall

  4. P-Locking Audio from computer on the OT itself and eventually get back to the DAW.

  5. Understand and use differently the OT architecture.

  6. Bouncing faster

  7. Resampling for Sound Synthesis techniques the easy and the fastest way (rather to feed the beast)

  8. Get 8 Stereo audio tracks (probably never gonna happen due to current machine limit bandwidth)

  9. Small configurations on the road without the hassle of many things to get this working. Laptop + OT Overbridge. Headphones > Working. Period.

  10. Make the bet to always stay with modern tech in music (devil advocate a bit here because that’s not what I think but probably people have that in mind in a way)

This. The lack of individual outs makes mutitracking a pain in the ass. The ability to modulate parameters with max and such would be a bonus.

I’d also be perfectly happy if the OT had more RAM for recording or the ability to record straight to CF. That would be just as good for me as having OB.

I sold my OT a few months back as I found I was more productive at actually making tracks with Ableton Live, so I sold my OT and bought Push 2. I do miss the OT but right now I can’t justify it’s role in my set up right now. Had OT MK 2 had Overbridge it would have been a no brainer and I would have immediately put Push 2 up for sale as it would have gave me a box I can switch on and use without switching my computer on but I would have had the benefits of having the projects automatically sync up to my Ableton projects once I did want to get down to making progress with a track.

But oh well, I just think Elektron missed a huge gap in the market for people who like both ITB and OTB. Maybe I will revisit the OT sometime, it is super sleek looking, it’s just anytime I have missed the OT, I have just held out for an OT2 but I doubt that will happen now.

Wow Overbridge for Octatrack would be the biggest game changer in workflow and also so powerful if you think about it.

FWIW I’ve recently had trouble with MIDI over USB and Overbridge on the A4 in my DAW. I barely miss it TBH.

ok, I understand your points.
Personally I wouldn’t use it, but that’s my workflow.

That’s true, indeed.

It surely had some ‘historical’ background in maschine evolution - but this contradicts the missing OB on MK2. :elot:

when Im doing a final recording of the track I switch to OB for the individual outs. Never use when just playing or building a track because it constantly crashes my A4 with a lovely high pitched squeal.

I think if it actually worked as advertised it would be a game changer. Ad I am willing to pay for it to pay developers to make it right. Unfortunately, syncing Ableton with hardware has been an impossible task for just about anyone, so if Elektron end up doing it they would suprise the hell out of me for one.

I must admit I thought OB was going to be important to me, but in reality I find I am either using my DAW (and VSTs) OR I am using hardware (modular/electron).

I do like the OB VST as a ‘big screen’ for sound design, but don’t realy use all the options of modulating the VST to modulate the hardware etc, as I prefer the electron sequencer or just hands on for this.

Works perfectly for me.
