Ableton Move [Archived]

I‘d like to chime in again on the „quickly lay down an idea“ thing. This is something I am beginning to hear more and more often. People are searching something to quickly lay down an idea and then further develop that on the computer. To be honest, sounds fake. Who really has ideas and lays them down on those things? Aren‘t they more for „developing“ ideas? Isn‘t that the whole point? Playing around and coming up with something interessting? But if that is the case if you are in fact developing and searching, the toolset you need is different. You really need an interesting sequencer with lots of options, modulation options, options to male it wonky. You can nudge on move but what about polyrhythmic stuff? Chance?

Splendid news! They just made cutdown to functions that are guaranteed to work flawless in their opinion I guess

Does anyone have any experience of transferring their own presets yet? I’m interested to hear how that goes.

I’m just one dude so grain of salt and all that, but I’m making a trade off by choosing Move over Push for now.

While I don’t doubt that Push is the be all and end all of Live control, I’ve heard so many stories people sometimes find that they only use it to slice samples and create chops in Simpler and to play drums on the Drum rack. All too often people say utility tasks are inherently better on a mouse+keyboard. One of the reviews of Move actually pointed this out saying that Move is “a far quicker, more intuitive workflow than Push.”

Btw, I’m not knocking Push, but for £879 if there is the slightest doubt about whether you’d use it fully, then it’s hard not to question the price if it’s all you can see is nearly a grand gathering dust. That’s a different equation when it’s £399.

But the other reason is the appeal of the speedy workflow. I’m a Circuit Tracks kid I suppose. But I always felt that the Novation lineup was also weirdly hampered. Circuit is a fun 32 pad device with macros for editing sounds, but literally no way of easily getting songs off it. Launchpad has much more in depth control of Live but obviously makes no sounds and has no macros for controling devices (yes it does on the pads but it’s not the same). I always wanted a box with some pads and some macros that I can use for most likely 50% of my on-desk control.

And if you did eventually want a Push, a Move+Push Combo is arguably a good option because the portable device is actually portable, fast and fun, and the controller is fully featured and as in depth as you want it to be. And you can have both for £1,278 (£421 less than Push standalone.)

I will look again when these features come. Have to admit I am tired of buying gear with features “coming soon maybe” . Been burned too many times by that

That is a sensible approach. Lest we forget the Overbridge debacle, just as an example. Bad vibes for a very long time with that one.

As for this thing, seems cool, but would’ve liked the pads to support MPE. But it might not have been very practical for such a limited amount of pads.

If you’re about to crack it open, please let us know how the pad response feels

It really doesn’t, though. I mean how much of the Move users would find it useful? 5%?

I ordered around 9am yesterday, status is still processing - anyone have the same? I’m from Ireland in case that makes a difference

I ordered the push 3 on launch day as well but can’t remember how long that took now!

Not overly impatient for this, but just wondering

No

Question:

If you have your drums, and bassline, on one track, can you mute them separately?

And from the same page as the Track mutes?

Where do you see that in your account?
I got the e-mail confirming the order and can d/l the invoice, but where’s the status?

You can mute individual Drum Rack pads, so yes - just hold the pad and click M (or maybe the other way around, i.e. hold M and tap the pad).

This is exactly what I loved about Digitakt and hope move follows suit. Having this with the OP one field could be a great combination if there are certain things implemented.

Feels great… firm, but good. Similar to the LaunchPad Pro pads; maybe like the Push 2’s (from memory), not like the Push 3.
