Hmmm… thanks for that. It hadn’t even dawned on me to run my MX-1 USB to my Force (which allegedly makes all Aria devices show up under the Force USB MIDI device list)? I was planning to run my MX-1 USB to my PC to record the performance, so will have to (again) re-think how I may approach this. Anyway, thanks for the tip!
Unrelated: weird thing is, I’ve ran my Roland System 8 via the analog 5-pin MIDI cable from Force as well as USB-MIDI direct, and can’t seem to switch presets via Force (this works fine with my Dreadbox Typhon and Korg Minilogue XD). Not sure if that’s a Force or Roland System 8 issue, though. Are you able to successfully send preset change commands to your TR8S from Force?
I have a general question regarding performing live with the Force (and by extension any clip based system). Say you have a live set that comprises a bunch of kick, bass, perc, hats, synth clips etc. and your plan is to mix and match on the fly (i.e. not stick to fixed scenes). How do you go about mixing them? Whenever I’ve used Ableton session view it’s been with the intention of making a track, so once I’ve made a bunch of loops that I like I move to arrangement and mix accordingly. Similarly, if you create a scene it is quite easy to mix that nicely. However, if you want to perform live with your clips, especially mixing up clips, how do you ensure that the levels all work? Any tips?
I have this battle with it too, but I know that it’s because I’m way more comfortable and experienced with my Live 2. I feel that if I/we stick with it, it’ll eventually become as fluent.
Or, we could just start using some clip programs on the MPC and keep with that workflow…??
I’m wondering if anyone has done any direct comparisons between the MPC and Force in that way.
I think there’s a lot potential with the MPC given it’s ability to change sequences and use it to load completely new clip programs with different tempos…
I’m on the same boat. The Force is currently in storage. And I had it for longer that the Live 2. Why?
Not sure but somehow the Live 2 had something else, maybe the portability, or the focus…
Dawless- MPC Live 2.
DAW- Ableton Live with Push 2.
I’ve come back to the Force because I have some live gigs coming up in the summer and the Force seems to sit between the two setups I’m used to… and I have time to adjust and get through the workflow mud I currently get from the Force.
But, if it doesn’t feel seamless to me in the next month or two I’m going to use what I know for live too… Push 2 or MPC.
One project with 8 sequences allocated per song. Making sure the MPC track template is consistent across all sequences and having a Novation Control XL mapped to control the volumes on the fly.
I also have 3 people playing live, so transitions would be a mixture of dedicated sequences and prearranged live performances.
I’m still building out the complete set up, but one of the three workstations were using contains a Tascam Portastudio with loop tapes and blanks to record/catch anything from all 3 setups (via a mixer aux send).
What I like about the Force though is the potential to record a whole load of clips on the fly with each performance.
I feel that live recording into MPC clips isn’t as intuitive and relies on pre-recording more parts.
Force peeps question… since this video was made in 2020 has there been any improvement to this feature specifically, I’m talking about the effects rack features in particular?
No, I mean the effects racks work as advertised. Which is to say - it’s pretty awesome. But no changes have been made to speak of since it was introduced 1-2 years ago.
thank you, the fact that all of the performance fx are recordable into the sequencer like that is starting to wear me down… did they happen to add anything for tempo changes/ automation?
Hi.
I can’t resolve my issue with the audio artefacts with my Iconnectivity audio4+ usb with force.
I tried many different setting but I have artefacts.
Im a bit bored.
A friend tell me is due to the buffer size of the Force but we can’t adjust it.
If someone can help me.
Not sure I understand why it wears you down? If you don’t want to record any FX automation, then… turn off automation recording when you record your sequence. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding you?
There is no tempo change as of the current firmware. There’s been a few automation improvements over the past 2 years - maybe read the changelogs to see what’s what. Not sure what you’re looking for.
You’re probably SOL unless Akai can replicate and fix it in an update. USB Audio support is very dependant on the interface you are using, for instance - my RME Babyface Pro works spot on perfect with Force (and the MPC). It’s likely the Iconnectivity audio4+'s Class Compliant USB Audio support could use some work by Iconnectivity.
I promised myself I wouldn’t get a force until they released a more portable model, being Akai I’m sure they will, but it’s getting harder to resist, hence ‘wear me down’
