Analog Rytm OS 1.70 Upgrade

Yeah, there’s certainly functionality overlapping that can be confusing in certain use cases. I really dig page loop and I’m not using fills as much on the Rytm as I do on other Elektrons.

I your case, maybe you could get a small midi controller to control mutes?
I found that a midi controller with mutes and level control can really open up the Rytm in terms of playability.
12 midi channels used, 13 if you want fx control, though and holding function to select several tracks for mute/unmute and the release the button to drop all the mutes at the same time is pretty powerful…working with a midi controller can’t give you that.

Maybe there’s a way (implement new button combo) to seperate fill and page loop?

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if that was new or not since I haven’t made much use of the BT. This is definitely a welcome addition. I like the results I’m hearing.

Please ELEKTRON make an option in Global Settings to Turn ON/OFF the PAGE LOOP function. It Kills all the power of Fills and Retrigs combined with MUTE and SCENES in Live mode situations. This in Rytm Mki.

When Page is pressed overlays the mute, scenes access. And I just want to make Fills and be able to continue have access to the mute page.

Not so drastic but I can definitely hear improvements in sound

Thanks for your feedback and tip. But have to buy another midi controller to access functions that th Rytm already have is a Killer to me and my Live set. Thanks. I Hope that in future updates Elektron can give the option to turn on/off the PAGE LOOP in Global Setting. Cheers

do you realize that the page button and fill button on the AR are not the same?

On the Mk1 it’s the same button.

oh didn’t know that, sorry.

I’m getting a new Rytm today, I can’t resist, I’m weak, I miss my grey one, bla bla bla (yeah, who cares, just get it and shut up!).

Thanks so much, Electron for this wonderful update. Although I’d have loved a 2nd LFO, I actually think I’ll get more use out of the Euclidean sequencers so that’s a fantastic surprise!

Is anyone else getting some quite stacked values when they randomise the euclidean page? In terms of the 2 pulses. Doing it now, out of 16 possible values for each, I’m getting…

16 - 16
0 - 16
16 - 16
15 - 16
16 - 16
5 - 16

Then depending on which bollean it picks, I get a LOT of either the whole grid full, or nothing on the grid at all… with just a few that give a good mix.

So the randomise feature seems very stacked to higher values and I wondered if that was a bug or wad?

well its actaully not random but if you increase the lenght you would get fewer trigs when you use the parameter at 16.

No worries. The Mk2 improved several aspects of the original design, for instance the performance knob (Mk1 doesn’t have, but it’s possible to control performance macros with a midi controller), dedicated fill button, sampling, higher parameter resolution, new screen and I probably forgot some important stuff, nevertheless, the Mk1 is still a great machine, especially when you have sampling covered.

Implementing a new button combo for Mk1’s (Idk, make it Lfo+Page or some other easy to grab combo) to access page looping is probably better than tucking it away as a menu setting, but we’ll see.
Elektron has been exeptional with their update philosophy. Some users already thought the old Elektron was gone and the new Elektron will focus on facelifts…

Clicking Trig + Yes is supposed to randomise it, no?

Wow, thank you Elektron for making my almost ten year old gear better and better.

The Analog Rytm MKI is not only my favorite drum machine, but also my favorite instrument, and I’m looking forward to trying out the new options tonight. I’m sure I’ll love the acoustic machines and the raw synth. I can live with one LFO because when you combine it with slide trigs, it’s like a second LFO.

What I really miss is more headroom on the inputs. I usually turn the distortion all the way up and the input gain becomes too weak. Is there more headroom on the MKII to connect an iPad directly, perhaps via USB audio?

That would be sick but then there’d be no way to commit into a regular pattern. One of the few benefits of sequencing externally.

Yeah - these are poorly weighted at present

When in a normal pattern length the random range should be limited to the maximum value

Basically it’s randomising using 64 steps and capping at 16 which will happen a lot as the random number can be over 16 75% or so of the time !

Possibly worse, but more forgivable and understandable, but if you go into advanced mode it also changes the length of your pattern too … something i feel is undesirable

A slight change has occurred in its implementation since i first tested this out and the way the length is handled is a tiny bit different

It is not randomising over an appropriate range and there’s a case to be stated for retaining the selected pattern length by excluding that from randomisation, just as we do with Volume level for a machine

To be fair, even twisting one dial will get you to new places so randomising is a bit random over and above its pseudo randomness

But it seems to me this algorithm needs a bit of finesse for sure, i agree !

There are often multiple different use cases to consider, and when designing only some can be focused on. Hard to solve them all in such a small machine  The current function is as intended, as it can be nice to use the LFO on OFFSET for things such as swept pitch drop (often used for drum sounds or effects, which are non-tonal) or fine vibratos on an individual note.
For tonal changes (albeit non-random) the square wave can be used, or maybe even triangle/ramp if setting the speed to a precise value. Or a p-lock of course.

the Erica Synths Perkons killer! As much as I love Erica Synths modules, over 2k for a limited 4 voice drum synth compared to the feature rich Rytm is why I bought a Rytm.

I wish they’d do one more run of the gray units, or allowed you to choose.
I prefer how they look; but would also prefer to buy new as you never know how a device has been treated and there can be issues with pads etc.
