Any sci-fi anime series recommendations? I’m looking for something with ok pacing which probably leaves most ancient eposes (epi?) behind for now. I did like Kaiju #8 but maybe that’s a tall order to match. Korean webtoon origins get an extra +.
Gundam is not a single series like One Piece.
The majority of Gundam series takes place in the UC (Universal Century) timeline. A handful are direct continuations of Mobile Suit Gundam, which was the first series. Others have stories and characters who are less related.
The newest Gundam series GQuuuuuuX is set in an alternate timeline branching off from the UC timeline. We watched the movie which serves as a pilot to the TV series and didn’t feel like we missed anything from not having watched Mobile Suit Gundam in its entireity or the other UC series. We did watch Char’s Counterattack, the iconic UC film so we knew who Char was at least.
Turn A Gundam is set in the Correct Century timeline, in a future in which Earth people have regressed to 19th century technology and culture until they find a Gundam mecha and use it to fight against people invading from the Moon with advanced tech. It’s notable for the Yoko Kanno soundtrack as well as the juxtaposition of mecha and other high tech against the 19th century look.
Iron Blooded Orphans is set in the Post Disaster timeline.
Witch From Mercury is set in the Ad Stella timeline.
The only thing that ties all these Gundam works together is the presence of Gundam mecha, human cruelty to one another obviating the need of alien enemies, and anti-war messaging.
Deca Dence
Space Brothers
Aria
Pluto
Gundam Witch From Mercury
Gundam Unicorn
Legend of Galactic Heroes
I love all kinds of scifi - action, drama, relaxing scifi, alternate history, etc.
Nice once. Seems like it’s true that scifi gets more time spend on animation than fantasy.
New for today, it seems.

We watched the movie in the theater. Looked pretty good.
Will eventually watch the TV show, which is currently carried by Amazon.
My buddy recommended these two shows that are Adult Swim, not anime but I like them. I watch them on Max:
Common Side Effects (more thriller than scifi to be honest)
Scavengers Reign
The latter has excellent world building and creativity in designing alien animals and beings.
Scavengers Reign and Common Side Effects were superb, next to Severance it was some of the best TV I seen in a long time.
I loved both Common Side Effects and Scavenger’s Reign.
