I’ve been comparing one to my Antelope Orion Studio Synergy, and while it obviously doesn’t have any on board DSP, and the mixer is rudimentary at best, the sound quality is actually surprisingly good, for the price. Also didn’t expect a headphone output that can get that loud.
So I ended up getting one of these and its been ok so far, but I am having an issue with the output volume.
So far I have only been using it with a Nord Wave 2, using TS cable connections to the rear (input 1&2) and I have noticed 2 things.
-
The output volume from the Nord seems very low so in the Audiofuse software I have to have the input gain cranked to max to the VU meter to peak between -10 and -6dB as recommended in the manual. Not sure if this is a Nord issue or an Audiofuse issue.
-
The bigger issue is the overall output volume, it does not gently taper all the way down to inaudible. This applies to both monitoring the input of the Nord and also just playback from my DAW. As I roll back the volume it hits a spot where it just cuts out entirely and this is not something I have experienced with any other interface. I noticed on Reddit someone else had the same issue and they also happen to have the same monitors (Genelec) so I am wondering if its somehow an issue with the Genelecs. Anyone with an 16rig using Genelecs have this issue? I can sell them and get other monitors but it seems like an issue that should not happen on a high end flagship product like this. My $400 Focusrite interface did not behave this way.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Yes, I am also experiencing this. If I play white noise via my DAW and then turn down the volume, when it hits -60db (which is fully CCW as seen in the AudioFuse Control Center) the audio will cut out. Almost like a noise gate. Interestingly, if I press DIM which will drop the audio by -10db then the cut off point becomes -50db.
No idea why the volume doesn’t go beyond -60db to infinity. It’s rare I’ll ever encounter this as I control my levels via my DAW and don’t use the interface without a computer.
But, hopefully this can be fixed as it’s just odd.
Its odd and annoying. What monitors are you using ?
Unit-4’s.
dang, here I was hoping it was some weird Genelec thing and would be solved by getting new monitors.
Curiously the monitoring with headphones works perfectly.
I just tried using output 9 and 10 instead of the main monitor outs to see if that makes a difference. It actually seems a little bit better but weirdly it doesn’t completely cut the sound entirely. perhaps that’s by design.
i can’t help but feel there is a software setting somewhere i am missing
Does your track have ‘Pad’ on or off? This def impacts the overall gain of a track. Default settings is on, so this will be why you have quieter inputs but not sure that solves your issue.
Has anyone experienced dropouts in audio with the USB audio connected? I’m not even using my computer sound but the audio cuts out intermittently, it’s worryingly unstable. The issue does seem to go away when not connected to a computer. Haven’t got round to trying to record something into the DAW yet.
Thanks, it was on and I just turned it off and perhaps it seems a tiny bit better.
But here is the best way I can describe the issue - just playing a video on YouTube with the YT volume set about half way, on the Audiofuse at -60db there is nothing but turn the dial a bit to say -59.4db and the volume is already at speaking volumes. There does not seem to be any option to get this thing to play quietly and perhaps it seems like the signal coming out of my Mac is very loud but there is no way to adjust it other than using individual programs volume controls - eg YouTube volume or Logic master volume.
So if I have my volume on Youtube set to almost nothing then I can use the master volume on the Audiofuse and you get a nicer taper on the volume and it works much closer to how I would expect it to, but then if I open some other program and play audio at the usual volume its going to blow my brains out.
SOLVED:
new problem - this one is very bad.
almost every input is bleeding very slightly when listening within my DAW. It happens into recording the inputs as audio. If two inputs are playing at the same time and i mute one and record the other i can faintly here the mute track still both live and in the recording.
My stupidity - this is sort of solved now. I think the cue track is bleeding but if i turn the cue output down, the bleeding stops. might be user error on my part - will investigate further.
I was able to solve my problem too by setting the sensitivity on my monitors to its lowest setting.
Edit: apparently it’s a known issue that some of the screws are too tight. I managed to finally get them out but it was a pain.
New user question, how do I route a VST from Ableton to say outputs 9/10 in the Audiofuse?
In trying to sample into my S2400. This is what have tried;
- USB 1/2 are routed to my monitors and I can hear the main mix in Ableton.
- The Ableton vst track ext out set to channels 9/10.
- I also have other hardware plugged into the Audiofuse. They are also added to the AudioFuse cuemix and I’ve assigned the cuemix to hardware outputs 9/10
- I can hear/sample the hardware channels from the cuemix out of the 9/10
- I cannot hear the Ableton vat channel through 9/10
There must be a way to route DAW tracks through the outputs!
Important information that is implied on the site/ in the quick start guide but not explicitly mentioned: you cannot use your 16Rig until you register/ unlock it. I spent 45 minutes trying to figure out why my USB ports couldn’t see it, reinstalling drivers, etc, before realizing registration was the reason I couldn’t see it. I usually register my gear after I know I’m going to keep using it, so this threw me off.
Deal breaker
ok another issue
when i record 14 tracks of hardware the audio drifts out of time. im using an MPC 4000 and the audio / midi is tight. but the recorded audio starts on time (or close enought) and then drifts. i’ve actually switch off any midi clock sync in ableton and just pressing record on the metronome click to avoid any chance of it being a midi related problem.
so only thoughts is it must be a problem with the AudioFuse. I’ve set the buffer size to 32 which i believe is optimal for recording.
let me know what else could be tried?
That stinks, hope you can work it out.
Are you on a Mac? There are some settings in Audio MIDI Setup that could be worth tinkering with that may help
Well, that’s B.S. What the hell are they thinking?
I don’t think I’ve ever run into that in the hardware domain, not even with Akai.
Cheers!
Does anyone know how to get the headphone out to send a stereo signal? I’ve managed to get it so I can hear my external synths and sound coming from my computer, but I can’t for the life of me get the headphones to output in stereo, only mono. I’ve only made basic routings so far because this stuff generally goes over my head - here are the screenshots of the things I’ve done. Any help is appreciated!
Try doing Phones to 1&2 . Think it also depends if you are monitoring from your DAW or from the interface. Not sure why you are only getting a mono signal.
I think it is the MPC 4k. Tricky problem when getting two pieces of new gear at the same time. I was able to get a stable recording from S2400 being the master, but the tracks that the MPC was sequencing still drifted in the recording. Pretty stumped as to why the MPC does this, it’s meant to have rock solid timing. But I don’t think it’s the AudioFuse.
