So i guess you think it’s substantial, to me a free vocoder does not improve upon the shortcomings of the MF.
Yeah it’s funny as the vocoder is the first thing that has me actually considering this synth. I also always thought it was a shame that they didn’t include an audio input but it looks like it may have been possible all along?
Yes the headphone out is a TRRS port.
If the vocoder is main attraction, surely there are better options without having to buy MF.
OK, I guess you expected something different and are disappointed that the update didn’t not address exactly what you wanted. I don’t want to argue and I think that’s a matter of perspective, but objectively speaking, adding a complete vocoder for free can be considered substantial.
It all depends what you think of vocoder and how well you think the MF performs over all.
I could use a key bed that works, some basic effects to make it less boring and dull, a better software integration that.
So to me a substantial update would be MF 2.0 (hardware) where you would fix some flaws and add some effects.
To you it’s a vocoder.
The demo’s thus far has sounded gimmicky, then again I’m not a big fan of vocoder in general.
I wish they would add basic effects like chorus or reverb too…
Chop the keyboard off, plug into some FX, and make glorious french electro with your new vocoder until the sun comes up
LOL yeah, it would probably make more sense to me if it was an expander… vocoder still not my thing though.
I really like the keybed and it works great for me. Seems to be a polarising issue tho…
But Iam really unimpressed by the vocoder gimmick even the microkorg sounds better
That is interesting. I have a MiniNova for Vocoder purposes and it is actually quite good at it if you change the gooseneck mic but apart from this, some more than decent Vocoders programmed into it.
Let’s see what Arturia has down the sleeve for the MF.
Still amazed at this little guy: constant updates, new waveforms, new engines, free patches.
I am not so much bothered by the fact it has no FX onboard: I prefer adding it to it
True
I really like the keybed and it works great for me. Seems to be a polarising issue tho…
To me, it’s a fun idea, but since it’s so sensitive it’s not very useful since the humidity in the room and the moisture of your hands will affect it.
Hats off though to Arturia adding features is nice.
I want this because it is way cooler looking in white. This would match with my UNO Drum perfectly.
They keybed didn‘t seem to work for quite a lot of people, maybe it‘s some weird biological factor…
For me it‘s actually one of the good things about this synth…
But I find it quite hard to get it sound really good. It mostly sound very harsh and cranky and it‘s challening to get usable results although not impossible.
And yeah, it needs plenty of fx to get things going but I am fine with doing that outboard (I really like 19“ stuff from the 90ies).
It‘s still a keeper but I don‘t know for how long…
It would have been nicer if they had done something different with the audio in than a vocoder with questionable usabilty but on the other hand it‘s a cool discovery that it even has audio in and that‘s for free even in the old version
Vocoders can process a lot more than voice. I think how it is implemented here would lend itself more to beats, analog synth lines etc as a sort of complex ring modulator.
Yes, I understand that still a vocoder/ring modulator not even close to being as useful as a simple reverb or chorus, especially on dull and dry synth as the MF.
But I’d be curious to hear someone use the vocoder in a more creative way on the MF than we heard thus far.
You can add it yourself, with a lovely Typhon
Yeah that goes without saying. The thing is the MF is probably the one synth i simply found unusable without any outboard effects.
Not a fan then…
