Cheap portable speaker for travel studio

I usually get similar speakers from the local Daiso distributor for around $5. Zero latency, surprisingly adequate sound quality.

if you endorse these I’m adding to cart. any bass on these? (doubtful)

That’s just the first set I found, but in my experience the sub $15 speakers powered by USB are mostly the same. Some noise from USB power, tiny amounts of bass (because tiny speaker, clearly).

Overall, better than what $50 PC speakers from the ā€˜90s delivered. Extremely adequate for small values of adequate.

Edit: if you are impulse buying, find a Daiso and get the speakers there. Cheaper and just as good.

Finally, this is the one I bought from Amazon that is nearly identical to what I later got from Daiso (except the Amazon version is 6x the price of Daiso):

Also fun, but not stereo:

I had a set of boston acoustics computer speakers in the 90’s that must have been really well designed because they thumped. just the ported speaker pods, no added woofer.

JBL have done that on the newest model in all their portable speaker ranges, annoyingly. Charge 5 sounds good but is Bluetooth only and the latency is shite

I bought my buddy one of these about a year ago, and I’ve been so impressed with it that I’m planning on picking one up myself for portable production:

USB-C, aux in. Price dips to $80 every so often.

EDIT: I haven’t actually tested his with any gear, so I didn’t notice if there was latency on this unit, which I realize now is an important detail for this thread.

The Blackstar Fly 3 has been pretty good for me. It’s a mini guitar amp primarily, but it has an aux in with no latency (I was also surprised to find the Soundcore had an absurd amount of latency on an aux cable). It’s a bit more expensive than you’re asking for tho (like $75ish I think)

I love Minirigs. I have v2 with stereo pair and sub.

I bought this some months ago.

My older minirig died unfortunately.
It was much better than the Soundcore Motion+
but it“s a bit pricey and well, it died.

The Motion+ is not bad, good enough for me.
Aux in can be a bit noisy and bluetooth doesn“t connect
on the first try most of the time.

I also gave up installing the app to get access to the EQ settings.
Didn“t work, I“m kind of new to smartphones or maybe too stupid.

Paid 69,- € , the input has no latency and it sounds OK.
EDIT: Want to confirm that this model has NO relevant input latency, that“s why I bought it.

What I actually use: 15 year old etymotic ER-6i IEMs.

I love these. Maybe not as portable as the Anker, which I also like, but they sound great. No latency and solid low end, pretty portable too. Cheaper still on Amazon. They have refurbished pairs often for 15 bucks.

Let me review this thread.
I love the form-factor of the Minirig, and considering that people here are claiming its sound is really good, I would like to get myself one.
It even seems there is a new v4 now.
The only problem is I can’t find them being sold in Germany. Weird. Any alternatives out there with a similar form-factor?

I got one of these last year and there’s much less latency than other things I’ve tried. The one thing that it does have is a weird I guess couple of ms delay between channels maybe as if you play a single note of a pure synthesizer wave into it, you can hear it modulating ever so slightly but on the main the size, battery capacity and quality are actually all really pleasing.

Edit: Speaking about the aux in by the way, not got much use for bluetooth audio in my life.

Let me correct myself for anyone reading this later: it seems that Minirig 4 has just been released and shops in EU haven’t stocked it yet.
That said, it seems to be possible to order directly from their website, with the price being right under 150 EUR, which in Germany at least, is not a subject for the import tax (it is for VAT, though). Unfortunately, delivery alone is 20+ EUR depending on the currier.
In my case, I’ve decided to wait until it becomes available here and just buy off Thomann or whatever.

I’m thinking about grabbing a single iloud mtm speaker for on the go jams.

They would be mono, of course, but that’s fine for sketching out an idea or jamming with friends.

I’d also have a really good mix reference source back home or in hotel rooms.

It’s not battery powered but I have AC power bank.

I use a Beats Pill for what it’s worth. Record out from the Model 1 into the Pill.

a friend of mine got me this portable speaker for christmas a few years ago and its served me well. no noticeable (to me) latency when using the 3.5mm input, no battery saving shutoff when no sounds are playing. the only annoying things are the beep when its low on battery and the button based volume rocker with no level indication.

I’ve had a Mackie Freeplay Live speaker for several years now, and have been very satisfied with it. Is it the cheapest option? No. Does it sound great with a fair amount of I/O, battery power, and light weight? Absolutely.

Hello everybody! I Would never have thought that this would be such an issue, and now I am also on the hunt for a portable solution  The Minirigs seem to be great but a bit too pricey for me… And the Soundcore Motion+ seems to be a great speaker, but a bit too large for my needs. I found this great list of speakers where latency is also mentioned and wanted to share it with you:

And I personally wonder if I should risk buying the Tribit XSound Plus 2 which is supposed to have a aux-latency of 16ms:

What do you think? Is that a range that will be noticeable? Or does maybe anybody have experiences with this speaker?

Thanks in advance!
