Negative, I actually tried to google it not long ago and no evidence exists yet outside of this thread.
Maybe it’s passive cooling for the 6 analog voices
The detachable keyboard aspect of this is kinda fascinating. I wonder if it’s decent?
Since apparently you can buy this either as a desktop, or with the detachable keyboard, perhaps there will be more desktop parts for the keyboard to pair with later.
Magnetic connection, makes it quick to disconnect. Probably done with those nice solid sprung connectors for the electrical.
ADDED : For all the DIYers out there, the magnetic connectors are called Pogo Pins – they’re relatively inexpensive, and work great.
Looks interesting, if the sound is there. I’d like a mode that switches back to single adsr for both amp and filter.
This looks really impressive! Looking forward to some proper demos…
Damn, now I wish every synth had a detachable key bed. That’s really sick.
Yeah the “essential” part of the title is perhaps a clue. Maybe poly after touch, or deeper xoxo sequencers will be provided later.
I’ve been impressed by the sound of the B1, and the detachable keyboard here is genius (I know Roland tried this with the Boutique line, but this looks better)
They have my attention
<looks over at gear, guiltily counting number of 101 clones and mono-synths>
Oh shit it’s real!!
I love the B1
It’s one of the most “jammable” synths I’ve tried.
Well this is interesting news. I do not hate the aesthetics of it, although I would really have loved to see full sized keys, especially since the keyboard part is optional (a la boutiques).
Really pretty exciting with the extra envelope, depending on the sound. Also depending on the price, I wish there was some info available on that but if they’re already showing it then it must be in the pipeline.
You can actually change the title to Donner L1 (SH-101 Clone) or something like that if you wanted to, since I guess this is proof that it exists and has a name.
if they’d do the display like they did with their Essential D1, i’d be compelled to try…
also because i dont like my hands on top of displays while reading… performance gymnastics becomes troublesome with age.
I don’t know, it doesn’t feel unannounced anymore.
With a sequencer? Hell yeah Donner.
I was thinking about a JDXI, Monologue, or AK - I want a grooveboxy-keyboard with a step sequencer in it. Excited for this now
Unlike the Roland SH-101 or Behringer MS-1, the upcoming Donner L1 will host two full ADSR envelopes. This gives you a full independent envelope for the filter and for the VCA.
I like that Donner goes significantly further than the originals. Behringer could learn from that
They added a new sequencer ( I don’t like it personally ) , added fm , midi sync lfo , another oscillator, usb midi , … not exactly a straight ‘inspired by ‘ synth.
Is that space bee synth a straight clone ? ( if it comes out )
I expect this will be fairly cheap - £350 and under . … a fairly accurate sounding thing but probably not identical.
Same here. And it’s going to be ridiculously cheap if their other stuff is any indication. The S-1 does a fine job, but sometimes I want to use something bigger.
I actually wonder if tubbutec will be upset after reading about this, because it might be possible that the second envelope is based on the tubbutec sh-1oh1 midi upgrade to the original. The likelihood of this would increase depending on how accurate of a clone/replica whatever this is. Maybe they copied the MS-1 instead of the SH-101 who knows.
I mean it’s definitely not confirmation or implicit guilt, but that tubbutec upgrade has a slightly improved sequencer with multi sequence memory, and a second envelope as well as a second LFO for the filter, so it’s plausible to think they could have taken that and used it as a platform to do more sequencer upgrade, kept the second envelope and just ditched the second lfo.
The MS-1’s FM mods are literally the Nova mods for the original which circuit benders uk still does on order to original 101’s (even though it’s not their original mod), so while B and donner are not the same company, probably, it’s not unthinkable that donner looked at what was available and was either inspired by, or copied some of the available resource for sh-101’s, like the sh-1oh1 mod.
Just thinking out loud.
I don’t think is going to sound like an 101 clone, it seems more like an approximation or homage, I mean the moment you add a second envelop it’s going to sound super different
I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, we’ve probably got enough synths trying to be exact 101 clones
