Drambo (iOS)

Much appreciated, man. Thanks very much!

Hope everyone is having a great Monday. I was able to have a few moments alone on this holiday and here’s a little 8 minute piece for your ears and spirit:

Hi
I received my Dreadbox typhon.
I want to rec Typhon into drambo but it doesnt work.
In the flexi sampler i put has source USB 1+ 2.
I received midi notes but no audio is coming.
I can ear the Typhon in AUM but not in Drambo 🫤
What im missing?

On the ‘Rec’ tab, you can tap on the word ‘Monitor’ to turn input monitoring on/off.

Side note: I dislike those few places in Drambo where a function doesn’t have an obvious control. This is one of them. Unless you know to tap it, it just looks like text.

Hi. Yes i know. I did it but i havent any audio signal.

Have you tried adding an Audio Input module (from the Misc/Utility section) before the Flexi and selecting External Input? This SHOULDN’T be required if the audio routing to the track has been set up correctly, but it’s worth a try to make sure, as that will definitely get you audio coming in from ‘elsewhere’.

(Put the Flexi sampler record source back to ‘Module input’ if you try this.)

@Gat I’m not too familiar with connecting synths to the iPad, but maybe you could also try changing “audio from” to Typhon/usb in the track settings?

I did it and nothing happened the usb work because i received midi notes from the typhon séquencer but no audio signal at all.

That is odd. Try @Michael_R_Grant suggestion of adding an Audio Input module and see if you get a signal that way.

The only other thing I thought of is: do you have other audio apps running at the same time? It should’nt be and issue but I have a couple of apps that don’t play nice together by grabbing the audio bus. Try closing all other apps apart from Drambo and see if that cures it.

Just to check, do you have the record input in the Flexi Sampler itself (ie. not in the track header, but in the actual Flexi module) as External Input?

If you take the Flexi sampler out completely so there’s nothing on the track, but have your track audio set to USBi 1+2 and play notes on your Typhon, can you hear anything? What about if you add the Audio Input module? I’m just trying to troubleshoot! I’m leaving a message for Giku on the Drambo beta forum to see if he has any other ideas.

@Gat I’ve been asked to ask you if other audio interfaces work for you in Drambo. Do you have anything else you can check?

And another thing: have you enabled monitoring in the Flexi Sampler record panel? (It’s the greyed out word below the big ‘Rec’ button.) A screenshot would be great.

I’d make sure the sample rate of Drambo and the Typhon are matched.

Not had time to look but appears a new update dropped

Slow down with all the new awesomeness!

Has anyone tested it out much with the new Ableton beta? Know if there’s a way to make the interface bigger?

Is there a changelog for Drambo that gets published anywhere other than the app store?

Edit: ended up just pulling it from the app store page:

Im too new to Drambo to comment much on new things but adding new track is a welcome addition instead of messing about as previous.

I notice on tutorial videos that adding a new custom made instrument is a a bit of a faff (select all / copy / paste) so not sure if this is now more simple in latest editions.

As a newbie something that surprises me is when you open a new project with an existing one already open etc there is no prompt to save it with changes, just seems to open a new one

I’ve been using Drambo for a few weeks now, and I still can’t believe just how much more it clicks with me than anything else I’ve used in a decade-plus of experimenting with making music on the iPad.

I realized that with BeatMaker, NanoStudio, and even AUM, I never encountered anything that would inspire a feature request. I just never got into the workflows enough to get to that “this would be even better if…” point that I have all the time with the likes of Ableton or Reason on the desktop. Yet I already have a few with Drambo!

I don’t know if Beep Street has a forum, or if I should just email them in, but here’s what I have so far…

  • An option to set the default mute behavior instead of always starting in audio mode
  • An easy way to move modules into a rack (I know you can cut and paste, but it would be great if you could just drag one end of the rack)

My sentiments exactly. What’s even better about Drambo is that it makes playing on my Elektron Kit even more pleasurable.
