Erica Synths Bassline DB-01

I once spent 20 minutes soundchecking a gig wondering why everything sounded tinny and shit. Turned out my Acidbox (very similar filter to the db01) was on bandpass instead of low pass.

Don’t want to be a knob and state the obvious, but have you checked it’s not in band pass mode?

There is nothing too obvious for this guy! I appreciate the note. I did in fact think of that. But not the case, unfortunately.

So just me then…

Oh well.

Best of luck figuring it out.

I got my DB-01 out of it’s box again today and started jamming. An hour later and I now remember why I bought it in the first place - it sounds great and is a lot of fun to play. I ran it through an MXR distortion + for a bit more oomph. Riffs and motifs just fall out of this thing. I’d love to see someone with better skills than me play a banging live techno set with this thing.

I miss mine! It really is a riff monster. Love being able to love record the arp mode while it’s locked to a scale. Only thing I didn’t like was the weird slide behaviour. It wasn’t enough like a 303 in that respect for me. But it’s characterful.

Isn’t it that the 303 has weird slide behavior but we’ve all grown attached to it?

I use and mxr full ore metal, nothing cracks me up like seeing the damage that can do

Kinda… I just want portamento I guess. Still, it is what it is, and the DB-01 is a gorgeous machine.

I just picked one of these up today. Oh wow - so many features/functions/menus… I need to crack open the manual. After a bit of quick jamming I will say that this thing sounds thick and beefy, esp with the detune and sub. And it doesn’t lose bass with higher resonance. Erica Synth machines tend to have a lot of aggressive and distorted demos, which is not my thing at all, but if the Drive knob is kept at a minimum it sounds totally sweet! The LXR-02 is similar, in that it can sound nice and crispy and clean with no distortion/minimal drive. And the build quality! So industrial!

Something I made while figuring out how this thing works

This is great. All the demos ive seen, the bass is always distorted and aggressive. Good to hear it can do more rounded bass sounds

Here’s one I did this morning using the DB-01 as a sound module (sequenced in a DAW). All synth sounds (including FX sounds) are from the DB-01, only the drums are not.

Any tips for getting this thing to scream a bit when using the LP filter? Only when I engage the BP can I get it to squeal and sound very aggressive.

Maybe try high resonance with a lot of drive?

I hadn’t used my Strymon Timeline in a while so I put the DB-01 through it. All the synth sounds here are from that combination.

That thing is full of surprises.
Love the sequencer options on it and the mod options as well. I have it connected to my DT.
After listening to your track, I might run it through my Doctor A and my Specular v3.

You are in for a treat! My Doctor A is permanently attached on the end of the DB-01. I got the good Dr. for the reverb as I’ve never been a big fan of reverb/delay combos. But the delay (and it’s cross routing to the reverb) gives so much life to acid-like stuff from the Bassline. Between the two, I could start a pattern and just tweak away for hours.

I know it’s not that likely that someone has both but I’m looking at trading/selling my Malekko Manther to pick up a DB-01 - anyone had both and can share their experiences/feels?

I was just watching a Manther video the other day and thought it sounded great. What makes you want to switch to a DB-01?

I have both too, and it’s really an amazing combo!!
