I am so sick of getting static shocks

Update on this thread, I’ve been doing more or less this and it works.

I have a guitar stand next to the left monitor and grabbing it just before I turn the monitor on helps eliminate or extremely lessen the shock. Right monitor is next to a cast-iron lamp, same deal.

Makes sense since evil spirits don’t like iron.

Do you wear a fuzzy pair of slippers or footwear around the house? I do and I’ve noticed that it increases my static buildup considerably. But I love these slippers so I prefer wearing them even though I get shocked a ton.

I’m trying, but these steam radiators suck every atom of water out the air! My exczema has gone crazy since we moved in.

Just leave some small jars partially filled with water nearby (unless you have a cat!), it’ll help.

Doesn’t seem to matter what footwear I have on. I think it’s because the rug in the room is a cheap one from Target that’s probably 100% synthetic. I wonder if a nice wool rug might help.

Just chiming in to say, ME TOO!

Daily shocks from all my gear at the moment.

Hands are dryer than hell as well. Come on Summer!!!

Yeah, same. Actually I only started to get shocks this winter. Maybe it’s because I’d moved my desk last summer or maybe my hands are dryer than the years before or idk. I got such a heavy shock last week when I wanted to get a speck of dust off my Octatrack’s display, I was really worried for a moment.

Anyways, first thing I did was to take off my shoes and that really helps. I’m pretty sure I only get shocks when I forget to take the shoes off.

Let’s get some opinions about where the worst place on your body would be to absorb a static shock. Let’s assume that there are no off-limits zones as long as you make your post acceptable by community guidelines.

It’s that one spot circumcised men have not to worry about anymore. I’m pretty sure that would be nasty. Or maybe under the tongue?

Elektrons may require some pretty harsh combo moves, but I’m sure it’s not that bad, so no need to expose these body parts. Not sure about Roland gear, though.

Back in the old days when things were already not safe, I think I had an old worn-out pair of earbuds, like the 90’s style earbuds where you were already taking a risk just by using them. I think maybe some of the wire got exposed right at the place where the headphone cable met one of the ear buds and I remember getting shocked on just the upper part of the earlobe was extraordinarily bad. I was just now imagining what if you got static shocked to the inside of your ear where the sensitive parts are… that seems pretty excessively bad, but I also question whether the shock to an area where the skin is considered a mucous membrane might not be even worse due to increased conductivity. Can certainly use your imagination on that one.

Tip of the nose isn’t comfortable. Turns out the romantic expression ‘sparks flying’ has some basis in truth. Although this occasion was just a perfunctory kiss with my wife in a car.

Edit: It was almost two decades ago and I can’t remember the exact details but the way I described it I was starting to wonder how it would be possible. It was a car that would always zap you after you got out. I’m pretty sure I had run into the shops to get something and was discharged already, but she had stayed in the car and was still charged, and the kiss was in the process of me getting back into the car. And it wasn’t one of those ones where you just feel it, it was one where you actually see the blue arc.
