MD UW has been my first Elektron and the real magic lays down to the fact that the sound creation tools are really there for mangling and somehow it has been super fast and tactile, something I would call overstimulating a pattern, basically you can have 16 parallel Sounds in full glory and that def. leads to experimentation which is most fun and something iam slightly missing since the introduction of the Analogs, which are still my favorite Analog Sources of choice.
that machinery feeling and fast Interface incl. control All and Input machines (chops, stutter, glitch, dying computer vibes) are SPECIAL.
but respectively everything Elektron is individually SPECIAL
Iāll share my personal opinion on why I love Machinedrum and Monomachine.
I love all Elektron boxes. Rytm and Digitone have been with me on countless stages and they always deliver and translate the trackās I have in mind in a perfect way.
With that said I do find both lacking some unique character that is present in MD, MnM and Octatrack. This does not mean I donāt like new devices or see them as lesser devices, I just find them less pronounced than the older Elektrons.
I think itās due to the filters and fx being different in newer devices, but also just the whole core of the machine.
My advice for anyone wanting to get somewhat close to the sound, the Octatrack and samples is a good way.
In regards to the āElektron could not sell MnM and MDā. Itās important to state that this was years after they were on the market and had been through several revisions.
Most people already had the devices or felt more attracted to the analog revival that was happening at the time.
Like it or not, Digitone definitely has its own tone, Iāve found.
Same for the Syntakt, but there are many machines so itās harder to pin it really.
Hopefully, you can get away from their sound signature rather quickly with the help of modulations, but itās there IMO.
This said, I love Machinedrumās filters and what they do to fast retrigs.
Iām less fond of MM filters, especially the resonance that blows up pretty fast, but its capacities make up for it.
indeed. coming from modular most of the parts of the Analogs do react like individual parts of the whole ātrackā and its soundpath, envelopes overlapping, key tracking etc. similar to a classic CV flow.
I think thatās the difference, the Analogs are oriented within a āClassicā system approach and MD/MnM have been like āone box full of mixed experimental sound design toolsā
I guess I see what you mean, but in a way, I feel exactly āa kick is a kickā, meaning weāve lots of them between all the contemporary machines, synthesised or sampled, FXāed, etcā¦ but regardless, thereās definitely a need for a more flagship architecture so to say ā modulation, like youāve mentioned, track fx, etc.
this. hence still own (two) OTs and MnM, but no analogs or small boxes
I feel like Iām in a court watching Elektronās trial and the jury canāt decide if Elektron is guilty of letting down their customers by not remaking old devices that belong to the past and their creators who have left the building and features that didnāt make it to the newer devices. Itās been days and days of deliberating but still no results.
I really believe its not about nostalgia or remaking, its about sound and sound palette. Nostalgia is exactly what people are critisising about these color upgrades because those are nothing more they offer pure nostalgia but no sound upgrade.
We donĀ“t want the old interface back or the old color, we want freedom of sound palette and this has nothing to do with nostalgia and this shurly is not was Ess ment otherwise he would not construct FM Synths which are very long in existence.
I think the e25 specials rock. Iām just not in the market for any of the Digis. I need to save my credit ratingmoney for any ltd edition Analogs they might bring out.
Yeah, other than the screen issue, itās super niceā¦ note that the screen sticks out quite a bit and isnāt āintegratedā in the faceplate. Also no screen protector, why Elektron?!
