iPad Music Apps?

Have you tried ‎RRS Ivoks on the App Store

I have no particular affinity for the Polyvoks but to me this synth sounds f@cking fantastic, it definitely rivals the Moog apps in terms of sound quality. The oscillators seem to have an insane harmonic…width? spectrum? I don’t know they just seem enormous. And the filter is gorgeous. And the envelopes are very responsive and exponential sounding. It’s impossible to make it sound bad and I’m surprised more people don’t praise it. Its deceptively simple looking as any Polyvoks fan knows and the range of sounds you can get with it is staggering.

Might have to look at that. Thanks for the link.

Moog have just released the Moogerfoogers for iPad and iPhone - currently £9.99 / $9.99 and there will apparently be a bundle at some point…

Now this will be a success story imo.

I grabbed the delay and the MuRF. Somehow more fun on the iPad than in Ableton.

They’re totally cool in Drambo.

How come even new release apps show “4+ years old” in the App Store. I’ve noticed it on all sorts of new releases.

i figured out you have to do it in the right order and now i dial in kick settings on this other app to get the sidechain how i want it, sweet!

Is that the age recommendation?

That makes sense for delay and LPF, but I think for ring modulation the user has to be at least 12+.

I used to own the ring mod pedal but sold it like an idiot for like $75. I’m interested how the app would compare to my memory of it, it would actually be the first time I ever got to try a modeled software version of something I actually owned

Phaser and chorus are really good, less noise than the hardware while retaining the same sort of vibe. Phaser in particular I had never been able to find a plugin that sounds/feels like the pedal did but this one is very similar territory, plus it’s stereo.

I’m an idiot hahah. Yes, that’s definitely the age requirement.

Wow, when were the OG pedals worth anything less than the buy price? I don’t recall that time!

This was like 10 years ago, and I was much more naive about the value at the time and to be honest I had barely discovered synthesizers and only used it on guitar and thought of it as a nearly useless novelty effect, stupid I know

That’s what I was waiting for!
Nice…
Can’t stand any of the moog synth apps but fx are worth a punt!

This is a super nice Machinedrum-esque (but simpler) synth app that’s capable of some great sounds. Stripped back and all on one screen + super cheap. Available for iOS and Mac OS. I’ve been using it with 2 x Playbeat 3 apps as the sequencers to run all 16 channels. Great fun!

Thanks for posting! I saw this was released but thought it wasn’t for me as I don’t really like drum synths where you build the sound from scratch in general (e.g. FAC Drumkit - it sounds great but is too much work for me, I prefer the Elektron style “basic machine to get you in the right place with parameters” model).

After you referenced the MD in your post I gave it a go though and it seems fantastic. Just the right amount of control to get interesting sounds, without being overwhelming. A percussion synthesis noob like me could easily make some great sounds. The sound of it all is really good, the distortion and XM/FM do give it that MD kind of edge. Nice UI too.

Definitely worth the price! Cheers

I’m the same as you in that I can’t be bothered with endless sound design effort, but this is just the right amount of tweakability, and most of the results are pleasing to the ears.

It’s a bargain whether you take advantage of the 50% intro offer or not.

I’m using this in Logic with D16 Punchbox (best kick synth plugin out there IMO), into a drum buss, and it’s proving to be an excellent set up.

Cheers
