iPad Music Apps?

The rate of improvement on this app is hugely impressive.

I wonder does Grooverider 2 warrant it’s own thread now?

i think it’s a great idea – but too lazy to start its own thread

There’s an active thread on the Loopy Pro forum (formerly the Audiobus forum, the main place for discussion of iOS apps). It will fade out after a month or two, as do most app threads. No one has anything to say about BAM these days, though it got as much attention as GR2 when it was released.

However the Drambo thread is extremely active.

I’d argue that people don’t talk about BAM because it’s a bit disappointing and limited.

I really, really like BAM and they added a lot of new features and fixes between November and February. I enjoy the workflow and layout and the built-in synths, effects, and sampler are really good quality.

But there are a few bugs I run into when using it on my iPhone that made me move to Drambo for iPhone doodling. I still keep an eye on BAM for recent fixes.

The Drambo thread is periodically active. A few posts in April, one in February, and then you have to go back to December. Same for Koala and a few others that have stood the test of time.

I believe that BAM might be limited but my point is that there was a lot of attention paid to it before and shortly after release. Before that it was another groovebox. I had completely forgotten the name and had to go trolling through the past videos of iOS synthfluencers to find it. EG Nodes.

In general I think I see more churn and less critical thought applied to iOS apps, compared to hardware on this forum. Perhaps because the apps are so inexpensive.

Yes but would love to see that bidirectional midi that was flaunted in video a few months back never to be seen again

The launchpad stuff? Yeah it’s gonna be cool

I reckon it does.

I haven’t used it yet (integrated) but the integration with the LP Pro Mk3 looks stunning, kind of like the ā€˜Circuit Pro’ people wanted for years, but a lot better.

Drambo is amazing… but its a different thing. There’s no way to get that level of integration with Drambo (atm anyway).

A powerful Ipad, GR2, a LPProMk3 and a couple of LCXLs could be an amazing portable setup!

I share this custom mapping every couple months:

Yeah really wish they release that soon

As far as I know, it’s in beta, and we’ll probably have it this year.

I think this is @echo_opera ā€˜s personal mapping. using the right midi sysex apps (i forgot the name) it is already possible to do this kind of stuff.(the vid is 4 years old)

The one in that video is.
But the developer is currently working on bidirectional MIDI feedback, and the testers are already trying it out.

BAM is great, and it continues to be my primary music making app on desktop (you know, i don’t like DAWs because they are for micromanaging things and making perfecrt mix — but not for making music).

but when GR2 got Launchpad integration, it just blew everything else away.

however, Drambo perfectly coexists with any of those two in my setups like Axoloti did with any of my hardware setups – it does my unique custom stuff (mainly MIDI processing).

Unfortunately the Launchpad model supported by the M8 Tracker (Launchpad Pro Mk3) is different from the one supported by Grooverider 2 (Launchpad Mini MK3), so I’m a bit stuck. I want one such control device that will work well with both!

at the moment GR2 supports 3 Launchpads:
Pro mk3 (appeared in 1.1.2)
X (appeared in 1.1.3)
Mini mk3 (appeared yesterday in 1.1.4)
