This has got me gassing

A glass of wine/beer for every setup.

But of course. The proverbial dangling carrot. And it’s long way to carry a beer.

Hold up… Do people actually do this sober?

At any rate, don’t forget the tequila.

Cheers!

10 years old now but I was always impressed with what Xosar pumped out of the Korg boxes

And Mistabishi

It’s a shame Mistabishi went all weird and racist :joy:

Ugh, I know it’s said to never know your idols and so I never followed his decline too closely

I am seriously considering getting an ESX… The prices on EMX’s seem a bit mad at the mo, in comparison, and it might give me a good feel for if I like the format.

Look for an SD card version. Makes life much easier.
The ESX doesnt have filter drive like the EMX1 does.

Both are great, and the workflow is pretty much identical on both. (Some might say the sampler is more flexible as any part can be any sound. ) anyway, happy bargain hunting.

I pulled the trigger on an EMX that came up last night on eBay :grinning: it wasn’t cheap, but looking at the recent sold items, it is the bottom end of the scale of what they go for, anywhere up to Ā£700 which is eye watering. I paid Ā£400 and there’s no knobs hanging off or anything and it looks in good condition.

I think I might have to give up last week’s incoming Edge to feel less guilty/be less poor, but in the long run in might save me money in not having as much temptations to be adding more semi-modular/modular to that.

No real relevance to anything much, but I paid just a shade over Ā£300 for mine second hand in 2009. Pretty strange that they go for so much these days, but I guess that’s the way of the world now.

I’ve seen them fluctuate in price. I’ve gotten them for 350-550. I personally wouldn’t pay more than that, but that’s me!

lol now me too :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the price increase is a supply issue, because of how they break down mechanically over time… I don’t know how many times I’ve had to recoat the button contacts on my ESX, or how many more times I’ll be able to before they’re just toast.

Especially now that replacement parts are so hard to find, I think there just aren’t as many functional electribes as there were 10 years ago.

I’m starting to have serious GAS for a Hacktribe! The FM oscillators sound right up your alley…

And for Drum and Bass it seems like the ideal machine (as far as hardware is concerned).

There’s a minty one in Chicago for like $250. Don’t think I can resist…

(I also think this could’ve been avoided if the more recent electribes weren’t such pale imitations of their predecessors.)

Another thing to look for is whether it’s coming with a smartmedia card. Those are getting pretty rare and expensive on their own, and can definitely add a $100 or two.

For what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure my EMX (with no card) cost me $500 new in 2003? If I’m remembering that right, that’s $836 in today dollars just accounting for inflation.

Yeah this one comes with a card  I think there are a couple kicking around somewhere in the house 2, from my fiance’s old camera, although they might not be 128mb.

I bought a bunch when they were just going out of fashion from the local pharmacy of all places (they’re still in their blister packs as well); but I rarely use the card that much to be honest; though that might be different if I had SD card models of the EMX/ESX I imagine. Smartmedia just feels so flimsy by comparison.

Ah well on the other hand, my Syntakt can do most of that, too … except the 909 hihats and rides …

While the new ones are a bit more flexible when it comes to track management. 4 bar patterns? Really? (8 bars max on the old ones) And musicians had to complain to Korg in order for the latter to add some awkward pattern chain…

Even the ESX has more sampling time than the E2 sampler, I kid you not…

This. I love the EMX/ESX series, but I’m not buying a used one in 2023, unless it’s like unopen box, because I know it’s going to die in my hands. Korg could just re-issue these even without the lamp but better built. They don’t even need to change anything to the rest of the design.
