Korg EMX-1 Opinions

Thanks. I’m on the ESX too. Same “webbing” keys. Bleh.

I’ve experimented with this recently on an old Yamaha QY70. I do own an ESX-1 and EMX-1 I’ve been lucky and my pads still work fine. I had to replace the encoder on my EMX due to knob jitter. But anyway back to fixing the pads… on my QY70 most all of the pads stopped working. I super glued small bits of aluminum foil to the back of the pads. It worked. It’s been about a year now. I had been having luck with just using graphite(pencil) on the traces but that eventually stopped working.

I’m set to buy either the EMX or ESX SD versions when the price is right. I refuse to buy old gear if the box isn’t included, for resale value and likelihood of being kept well.

Best deal on EMX SD in this condition is approx $750 now based on eBay sales. ESX is a bit lower. Reverb is ridiculous and not worth monitoring.

Is there a third place to watch for sales? I’ve heard Yahoo Japan can be a place to buy gear

I see nos pads for sale here

Yeah she is.

I have no clue about the syntakt. I muted that section of the forum when it was released. Couldn’t tell you what it does.

I think Electribes stand on their own from other ‘grooveboxes’ for sheer fun and simplicity. Nothing else comes close. You get a box that can make full tracks, and the UI is super simple, everything is laid out really nicely, lots of knobs, space, clearly labelled, no overly busy screen telling you shit you don’t need.

I’ve previously owned EMX, ESX and the E2 (synth version) I’ll never get rid of this EMX1 I have now.
The E2 is probably the most flexible electribe, with some great features. Yes the EMX is dater, yes it has its quirks, but I really like it. There’s just something about it. The E2 is the same. So is the octatrack. You just want to play with them.

Can’t say the same thing about the digitone or digitakt. Great devices, but not as fun as the above.

I made this last night and I was giggling like an idiot, I think it’s a banger

Sure other gear has more bells and whistles and more complex sequencers etc. But sometimes it all feels a bit too clever, a bit too techy. Sometimes you just want straight up synth and drum machine fun.

Syntakt? No idea. EMX? Fuck yeah

Try syntaur - i think Sam said he found someone to manufacture the pads them and they work great!

I know this guy has a questionable background, but this is pretty incredible.

Questionable background ? Don’t know about that, don’t care either. He’s an absolute master when it comes to these machines:

Yeah he’s a right wing bell end for sure. But behind an electribe, fucking genius. Makes incredible music.
I used to love his stuff before he went all weird on social media with his political views.
Now I’m conflicted. I want to dislike him, but dam his tunes are good.

Thing is, he’s probably an alright person in real life, the Internet does weird things to people.

Like putting labels on them !

His tunes are dope, that’s for sure. Anytime I see one of his videos I feel the shame… I don’t work hard enough, I blame the tools too much. Kinda like when I see Jeanne’s vids.

Not that questionable. He revealed his true self in all its glory on Dogs In Acid and it turns out he is a massive racist, at the least.

Sorry, I won’t go down this rabbit hole, I really don’t care . The music is great… and as a former user of the EMX, it’s humbling.

Absolutely. Just shows what can be done if you really focus on the music, and learn what you have. People that say electribes are shit, haven’t got a clue.

yup… also nice to have this in mind in these days of Digi-II… fight the GAS

Honestly I have zero interest in DN2.

I’ve got a Digitone, and I do like it, but damn the EMX is just bangin. Fun, deep, intuitive, fast. And loud.

See Xosar one the EMX too… different style, but still very good.

Yeah she’s more of an ESX user. Good though.
Also Phara, and Enformig (RIP). Both churned out incredible stuff on the EMX1.

It’s a classic.

Phara is great.

I think he got dropped from Hospital records too. Clearly great music on the electribes though.
