An almost on-topic question for experienced users…
Would you go for a 1978 MS-20 in good condition (yes, the effing original!), or a 2020 FS reissue, at the same price (1200.- CHF)?

Neither, I would buy the kit module version. OG has bragging rights but will most likely need a lot more maintenance than it’s worth. Still would get it over the reissue, though.
Thanks!
The kit is quite hard to get hold of, even harder than the original.
The OG in question is revised and in perfect working order. I happen to know someone who is into revising old gear, so further maintenance costs wouldn’t be a deal-breaker.
Oh well… I’m tempted, but not desperate yet…
Definitely get the original one then. The kit is actually an upgrade in a technical sense, while the reissue seems to be pretty lazy reissue. More colours, whoop de doo.
Besides more colors, you also get both filters on FS.
Preferences? Mk1 or Mk2?
Can you please post a link?
Really appreciate all the feedback/advice on what to buy.
I ended up buying the MS20 as small keys wouldn’t bother me too much, the K2 + a MIDI K/B(49 keys is what I have) would take up far too much space. I also have been a fan of the Korg synths for a while and I would imagine they would hold their value more so than the Behringer gear.
I now have OTII, TD3, Virus B and MS20. The addiction is only startling… where does it end…
There’s the printed version. I think the video can only be accessed via a subscription, like Pig and Dan’s in the studio video.
However, there is a slight possibility that I imagined there being a video when really it was just the article. It was a while ago.
I wish korg sold an ms20 module. I’ve got an OG 35 ms20 but it’s huge and I’d rather have something smaller.
Fwiw I’ve had my ms20 since the 90s, regard it as sacred electronics, I thought the ms20 mini sounded perfectly good.
I thought the K2, only seen it in videos, sounded wrong. (Some have said turn the oscillators down as they run hot into the mixer, not sure about that, but also I thought the ring mod sounded wrong, my biggest concern, and maybe the filter, somehow it could do the 35 growl but it sounded superimposed on the oscillators rather than created through interaction with them…).
They released a limited edition module version a few years ago: https://www.korg.com/de/products/synthesizers/ms_20mkit/index.php
Yeah I missed it, bum. Tbh my ideal would be K2 format so it can fit vertically in eurorack at wall to take up as little space as possible. So I was sad about K2 sound. But really the correct answer is clean up this messy room and create space for huge dufus OG ms20 plonked in the middle of the desk.
I don’t understand Korg. I think most people would prefer a solid-built module version. The FS version has been discontinued.
Also the Wavestate/Opsix/Modwave… Shitty keybed, no module.
Then everybody was expecting a full-size Volca Drum, and they release the Drumlogue.
Looking over this thread, and unfortunately this proves my observations. Form factor is superb, but sound-wise it only slightly resembles the warmth and drive of MS20. Curious how many components in B’s are actually reusable (most the other clones were more authentic to me, except this one)
