Hey all,
I am in a situation where I need to pass MIDI thru the A4 to two separate devices from my OT.
Manual says the A4 MIDI out port is :
[ol]
[li]MIDI Out. Use standard MIDI cable to connect to MIDI In of an external MIDI unit in order to control it. [/li]
[/ol]
However I am aware that A4 does not allow sequencing external gear via MIDI, although this isn’t very well documented in the manual (slight omission)
I was wondering if it is possible to configure the A4 MIDI out to act as a thru? Manual doesn’t mention it but, has anyone tried?
Mini rant… What is that port even for? Just to act as a possible SYNC port for weird old DIN24/48 hardware?
My current setup - I have the A4 sequenced by my OT, and also on the OT is a sequence for my Arturia MiniBrute. I have
MB out -> OT in -> OT out -> A4 in -> A4 thru -> MB in
I would like to add an ipad with lemur to control the OT and A4. I would be going into a IK midi connect with an In and either out or through connector.
Any suggestions? Im thinking the best bet would be either to just go from the A4 thru to the IKmidi In and use CV from A4 to the MB, but that opens up a new can of worms for me as I get some really wonky tuning when I try that. (anyone try that and know the correct tuning params?)
Alternative to that I could go purchase another adapter for the IKmidi so that it has thru and out…
Fun with hardware…
The MIDI Out port cannot act as Thru port. The MIDI Out port can be used for:
[ul]
[li]DIN SYNC data[/li]
[li]MIDI transport and clock messages and Program Changes for synchronising another instrument to the Analog Four’s sequencer[/li]
[li]Backups of kits, sounds, patterns etc to a computer or other device using MIDI SysEx messages[/li]
[/ul]
Which IK product are you thinking of? I couldn’t find ‘IK midi connect’ when I did a quick search.
Mini answer No !
Longer answer, it’s really very useful
it really shouldn’t, very straightforward, let the MB warm up before doing anything, but tbh, default values should work just fine anyway
.
maybe invest in a thru box
