Most boring topic ever! Please recommend a rock solid external hard drive

don’t buy Crucial HDs… have had issues.

i’ve had good luck w/various 5tb drives for back up. seagate, WD mostly. have had a lot of WD drives last forever. also, OWC (macsales.com) for solid state drives.

and some other random external USB drives that have lasted a long time w/o issue.

i back up to raid and also have 2 external 5TB drives as duplicate back ups. had a bad RAID failure with crucuial drives a couple years ago and now i’m over protective of the data and back up redundantly.

for performance for apple… get teh NVMe whatever they are that are just stick you put in the little case or dock. those seem to be great for performance… then back up to something else.

…scan disk’s solid state hd’s are pretty rocksolid…if u pick the fast ones…but like with all ssd’s…u need to leave some 10 to 15 % free space of headroom to be on the safe side for sure and u have a kind of limited count of rewrites…they all wear off after heavy use over two years…

if u don’t rewrite them too often, they last a lifetime…but a backup remains always a backup for too many good reasons…no matter what…
