I will re-try next year…
I feel that the things I though I was craving for are long gone from my thoughts, but some other things are definitely on the list, not because I’m craving for them but because I feel that I’m confident that adding them would really benefit my flow, I’m mostly thinking about external processing unit, I just want to have something that gives me physical controls over the overall sound coming out of my stuff, or even something I can hook up as a external fx in Live and have knobs to turn.
but again, I don’t feel it’s a GAS thing, more like an evolution step, I know exactly how I would like it to function but I’m not in a rush, I’m still having a good time exploring my existing stuff so it’s not like I’m sitting on the websites waiting for a deal, I actually can’t remember last time I’ve browsed any shop lol.
what I’ve gathered from this year is: there’s too much stuff out there, you won’t be able to “catch 'em all” anyway, so what’s the rush? turn on the machine, pick your least favorite algorithm or oscillator or a machine and make it sound good. when it does - fuck yeeaah, now do the same with the rest of them, take the sounds into new places. these elektron boxes can do sooo much, it’s crazy!

Well said!
Still on the wagon. Definately feeling better for not buying anything this year. There are some purchases I’d like to make but don’t feel the old rush to go out an buy stuff. My guitar amp started being arsey but I tried some direct recording setups and got something very usable in the mix, which was interesting. Also sold my prophet 10 this year sadly, but using the tempest synth engines a lot more. Not the same but still really good.
Hey guys, im failing this tonight as im picking up a cheap Behringer crave from FB. Good luck to all of you still staying strong
I will need to as well. Haven’t descended too much into GAS this year - other issues in life have been keeping me occupied - but some for sure.
I think that I need to spend the rest of the year deciding on a setup and sell everything else no matter how cool it is, or I’ll never get anywhere with this music thing.
Ha! Similarly, my music-making money has been going into skating, although I’ll say generally it can be a much more budget-friendly hobby.
On that note, I’ve found a simple cure to GAS: don’t make music.
Ok, now I have definitely sinned. I bought a Polyend Tracker on the big sale they had a few days ago. Why? Because this was the only product I had on my wishlist atm since it came out, as I felt I would get along with it quite well, and couldn’t resist the opportunity of grabbing a new one at the price of a second hand unit.
I’ve been selling a few things, so overall I’ve reduced the amount of gear I have, and economically it’s been ok too, but it’s a sin nonetheless. GAS hit hard with this one.
Have the possibility to buy an MPC One for 350 EUR. Almost tempted just for the trade. Is that breaking the (admittedly already broken) NGNY pact?
I’m pretty sure you can answer that question yourself
I realized it wouldn’t be worth the time and effort to try to make a slight profit so I’ll spend my time on something more interesting instead.
I would break the pact for that deal.
My name came up on cirklon waitlist (July 2019) and I passed. Top that!
Less than 3 months left!
For me… I think I’ve been feeling a lot of GAS lately… Now that I’m in the US where gear is way cheaper than it was back in my home country everything looks way more accesible.
I want to prepare a live performance and I’ve been struggling with the idea of hardware vs controller + computer. For both stuffs I will end up buying something, cause I also don’t have any controller, but for now I don’t know exactly what to do with that and I end up thinking all day just in the idea of ‘buying something’.
Am I too close to fail?
Still looking at the Push 3 here, no decisions made though. If a great deal shows up during Black Friday week, I might find it too difficult to resist.
Finally put my SP-404 Mk2 up for sale this week. Should have done that months ago really. Every time I’ve picked it up, I’ve remembered how much I hate the experience.
So, the only gear left is the Syntakt now. Aside from a Keystep 37 which I also never use and could probably sell too.
Yeah for me it’s been Push 3 vs Digitakt this past months… Of course they’re not comparable in terms of specs, but I could prepare around performance pretty well around both of them.
Stop GASing and go make some music with what you have. Get creative with it. If you really can’t make it do what you want (or hate it even more) even after trying hard, then sell it. Making music is work as much as it’s fun, if you want to actually get something done. No matter which gear you use.
But who am I to preach, I failed months ago and I’m probably about to cement my failure with another purchase before the end of the year… no biggie, NGNY 2024 is coming soon
Keystep is good for bringing some arps to your bass lines. And gives you 4 encoders you can map to e.g. FX control.
Don’t let it down too quickly, both pair pretty well.
Yeah, I just don’t ever enjoy plugging anything together. I’m a sucker for standalone music making. A Syntakt with a midi cable, a Keystep 37, and a USB power cable and powerbank = I’m already tired of it and would rather binge watch YouTube.
Hence the Push 3 GAS with the idea that it might be the last standalone groovebox I’ll ever buy…
I saw a brand new Moog One in a dumpster and kept on walking.
