Octatrack+alternative to MPC

I really have to check out the audio/sampler side of it. I stuck to the synth tone tracks cause I had so much fun with them. Lot to explore still

And, no audio inputs ?!
Only USB audio and internal sampling ?

Yeah no audio in (boo!) I’d happily pay a bit more for audio in, still I just copy samples from OT onto SD card, no conversion needed (except if I want to make them mono to save size where stereo isn’t needed).

Yes does sampling over USB (I never tried it, only had it a few days) and internal sampling from track or mix.

Other highlights: probability per step, micro timing, substeps, event editing, each clip can have any length from 1 to 128 steps, playback directions including random, each clip can have its own sound (or track sound) and its own effect with its own settings. Pad modes, note, arp (with lots of options), scale, chord (including custom chords) Probably other stuff I’m forgetting.

I recently bought a Zoom H2N (70€) which should do the job like many audio interfaces I guess. Usb Audio Class Compliant, tested with IPhone.

Not sure if that would work, I know it is class compliant audio out from 101 but not sure about in to 101 maybe someone else knows? Which then makes me wonder if it can sample over USB from Elektrons with class compliance - I think not but if it can :exploding_head:

It can’t, because neither of both devices has an USB host port (both are USB clients).

Thought as much but thanks for saving me the time of cobbling up a cable

Hmm, seems like I might be able to use the MC-101 with the generic USB setting with my Organelle to get audio in (using Organelle fx too!) might have a stab at that later. @thetechnobear wrote up a how to for Organelle USB audio here in case other MC-101/Organelle users want to try, this should work with Elektron class compliant + Organelle too I think?

An IPhone should do the job between MC101 and Elektrons, no?

Well, I have no iPhone so it’s hard to tell, but I heard rumors that the iPhone doesn’t support multiple usb audio devices at the same time. But maybe it works when one is strictly used as input and one as output. At least it’s worth trying …

Looks like FTJ is looking for a sampler with multi-sample support & polyphony?
I wouldn’t recommend the MC-101, since it does neither. The only sampling it does is over USB - it cannot sample directly to a Tone or Drum track - only to a Looper track. A single sample can be loaded from the SD card to a Tone track or a pad in a Drum track, but it’s only 1 sample, not the 4 layers like on the MC-707.

Akai Force or the MPC X are good options. OLEDs + encoders helps tremendously when sample editing & creating keygroups. As mentioned above, both have auto-sampling, like Apple Mainstage, and it’s a huge time-saver. The modern touchscreen MPC/Force are imo easier to use than the older MPCs. OLEDs + encoders means that you don’t need to touch the screen as often. Used Force’s are selling for silly-low prices. Check the used section at Guitar Center or Reverb.

Maschine+ and MC-707 are worth a look. Beatmaker 3 on the iPad is in a lot of ways the most powerful and quickest, but no 3rd party library support, like the Akais or NI.

Beatsqueezer…where to buy it?
Discontinued?

Laptop and Mach 5

Into masochism (or sadism)?: Laptop and Magix Independence (YellowTools).

Yeah

Yeah definitely the Force and the X really appeal to me. Especially Force, I like the Ableton Push style sequencing and the layout

Overall the MC 101 or 707 won’t make me do my own multisample easily. I can use my Kontakt library if I need to just grab a high quality multisample instrument.

The MPC architecture+autosample seems the easier, faster and the most enjoyable experience.
I always prefer to work on hardware but with solutions that don’t make what I’m looking for much harder.
I know that for certain task a pc is faster and better but I just hate making music with a mouse. And I’m an harcore videogamer but somehow I just can’t with music.

Thank you so much for everyone, it helped me a lot.
