Might be misunderstanding you, but it seems you can chop manually like this:
After auto-chopping a sample in equal parts, it’s not possible to edit each chop start/end points. In the video, the author is using different sample slots. Auto-chopped samples only use a single sample slot for all the chops.
It means that in theory it’s possible to have more one shot samples than the maximum number of sample slots (a sample can be chopped into up to 64 parts I believe, all the 64 parts take a single sample slot).
It’s however possible to adjust the loop size of a sample, the loop doesn’t have to start from the beginning of the sample. So the start point and loop point are 2 different settings.
Right, I think in the vid I linked nonjuror is just ignoring autochop and getting chops by adjusting start/end points.
That’s more then ironic.
Imhos this thing is the antithesis to “less” and throws everything and the kitchen sink into it…just to then skimp on sample space.
A sampler that has a bolted on granular engine can’t come with “less” when the topic comes up.
I know you did not mean it that way, but I just don’t think that reasoning could apply here.
Haha I was offline for a while because some stuff happening in the real world takes a lot of my time, but thanks to you tagging me I now have to get this new sampler I just found out about .
Thanks for mentioning my tape by the way, really appreciate it. The zoom sampletrak sounds amazing but the sequencer is worse than the old sp303 one basically… The step sequencer on this one looks really useful in comparison.
One question I have - searched the thread and the manual but couldn’t find a clear answer - is can this thing process the signal from the Mix In in real-time with the FX (inlc. Scatter)?
I’m not into sampling but the FX section looks pretty extensive on this, and I could imagine myself getting one just as a real-time FX box for my other instruments.
Roland should have paid Nonjour for that video, solid gold information and decent beat.
Looks like the external inputs can be routed to the MFX section via the Effects Bus (or left dry with Bus A or B).
Check out Switching between buses for sending sound in the manual
All the effects can be used with the mix input. Just confirmed it.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with
Hm, that’s pretty rad…
I might have to get one
OK, now next question: is it possible to live record FX changes/parameters?
Looking at the manual, it doesn’t seem they can be CC’d.
Very useful feature.
Also, I’m impressed that the ext. inputs can be sent using USB (if I’m not mistaken).
“I want to recommend P-6 as a first sampler. Not only that, P-6 has super deep functions such as synthesis, chop and granular. So, equipment enthusiasts will also love it.”
Smart product designer / product manager.
Next time someone asks me, “oh, do you play music?”
“Well, not not much – I’m more of an equipment enthusiast”
“What’s the difference?”
“A musician might have their first sampler, or third sampler. I have my seventeenth”
You are not mistaken. The audio input is sent through the FX and sent out through USB and mix out at the same time if needed.
If Nonjuror keeps making videos with P-6 I’ll probably get it sooner or later, just like I did the 404. He does great tutorials with these devices - short, clear and to the point, while making some seriously dope beats with them in the process.
Tried that and the FX does not get recorded.
All the knobs in the sample section get live recorded.
Many thanks!
Yes, that was my expectation, judging from the review videos, manual, etc.
If sound quality is there, it’s still an incredible bargain for this bunch of effects!
(just considering the price of a Scooper module)
Damn! If I hadn’t already snagged one, these videos would’ve sent me to the store.
I spend $220 on audio/midi/usb cables every time I have the great idea to switch up my studio arrangement.
A new Roland battery powered sampler for ants? Yes please.
Sweetwater toyed with me again, now Tuesday instead of Monday, still a day ahead of original estimate.
The P6 is toying with me.
