Nice, I’ll listen to this! I was about to post the Tron: Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk (Spotify link / Youtube playlist). Never got around to watching these movies, haha!

I love the soundtrack, but the movie was… well… let’s say that even Jeff Bridges couldn’t save that one for me…
Paris Texas… pretty much perfect soundtrack to a pretty much perfect film, absolutely love it
Love this thread!
Cliff Martinez also composed Soderbergh’s “The Knick” soundtrack, which is beautiful and fits surprisingly well the early twentieth century setting.
I regularly relisten to a bunch of tracks from the Watchmen series OST, this one in particular
Absolutely love this film and soundtrack! I first saw this film on the tv when I was a kid, maybe 8 or 9 years old, and it totally engrossed me, the imagery and feeling stayed with me for years before I saw it again. I only half understood what was going on but still totally ‘got’ it, if that makes any sense.
Did you ever hear this from Artemiev too?
Also linked to that (and the Solaris remake mentioned above), this scene which in a way mirrors (no pun intended) that scene from Stalker from the original Solaris. No music in this scene but love the sound design and how it builds. And of course Tarkovsky’s use of colour / black and white is essential, just as per Stalker.
I was a great fan of the book, but the series was a bit shallow, the soundtrack is great nevertheless.
For me it was the only Alex Garland piece which felt really complete, and I really thought it was a good film (some of that kind of stuff isn’t often up my street)… usually with his stuff I find that there are really interesting ideas and premises but not much after that. But I really liked Annihilation and the soundtrack is really superb imo.
Having said that, I have not read the books! (It was a film rather than a series btw)
If I remember well this is an Apparat track.
Edit: with Soap&skin, you are right
I’ve always been a fan of the soundtrack for 1971’s The Andromeda Strain.
I remember really enjoying the film and music when I saw it first in the early 80s.
Thanks for the link! I’ve not heard that Artemyev LP - will check that out!
I know what you mean with Tarkovsky. I was really drawn into the world of his films, but still couldn’t work out what was going on half the time. That highway scene from Solaris is mesmerising. I had a similar experience when I first saw it. I find Bela Tarr films the same. Similarly, the cable car scene in Damnation has that brooding/build-up feel, and the Titanik bar scene is up there as one of the best scenes put on film (from what I’ve seen anyhow).
The Amazing pieces of work.
Wow. Thank you for introducing me to Superior Viaduct!
Get most of my vinyl and aiffs from Hardwax already, so check in with them regularly.
Haven’t been to the new shop though. Curious, but also sad they moved out of the original location.
Quite nice blend of classical and electronic music (Orbital).
Loved the soundtrack to the Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie series The Curse. Composed by John Medeski and exec produced by Oneohtrix Point Never.
Feels like a completely integral part of the series and sets the general tone (ethereal anxiety?), almost becoming a character in itself as it’s used as a narrative tool.
Excellent highly original series btw, never seen anything like it. Fairly divisive but if you’re a fan of Fielder (especially The Rehearsal) or the Safdie brothers films it’s well worth a watch.

*Just clocked this is supposed to be sci fi related which The Curse isn’t… will leave it anyway as it’s so good and ticks the ambient box but will remove if people consider it not relevant
Akira is definitely in my top three…
Stalker was already mentioned here so I’ll go with the soundtrack to Under The Skin:
It hasn’t been released yet, but Mica Levi’s soundtrack to Zone of Interest is also amazing.
2 series that i loved the soundtracks for, but are very different in theme, are Scavengers Reign and Utopia.
Utopia came out a good while ago but my goodness its good, composer is Cristobal Tapia de Veer - the textures and rythms he makes from samples are just glorious. - Utopia (TV Series 2013–2014) - IMDb
Scavengers Reign started as an indie online cartoon i think, and then went into a series proper. Nicolas Snyder did the score, very amazing environement soundscapes / textures, really adds to the overall feeling the series is about. - Scavengers Reign (TV Mini Series 2023) - Full Cast & Crew - IMDb
Not a movie but the music for No Man’s Sky is top tier space travel music.
