Sonic Charge Synplant 2

I’m not entirely sure how it works, but I remember Magnus mentioning it in the Cuckoo video.

Well, I must say that re-synthesizing woody percussion has sold me on it. And while I now understand your point about the reverb, removing the wet for the dry sounds great on samples which had the space baked it. Sold.

Yeah it’s excellent at percussive things. I ‘made’ a very realistic conga the other day, albeit from a completely different source file, but I’ll take it

You know what would be cool. If the Dev ported the ML resynthesis sample engine to iPadOS M1+ so you could use your device to capture sounds out in the field and then upload your patches to your desktop.

Ableton should license his tech for Ableton Note.

Mind blown.

for me it was very bad for claps and snares, but in cuckoos video he had a version for microtonic that sounded epic

The Vintage Tonic preset collection for Microtonic was made with an earlier version of this technology. So I’d say there’s definitely a possibility it’ll be added to Microtonic at some point.

Yeah that video is pretty mindblowing. I am going to demo it when I can. I have been in a highly productive workflow with the 2020 and Bitwig so once I get through that, I can spend some time with this synth.

This is definitely an example of how I see AI being used in a creative way, and it is only going to get better over time.

Yes, it’s a fantastic synth.
Good that you’re developing skills on one synth at time - I’m terrible for having too many plugins to figure out at the same time!

I downloaded the demo yesterday (far too late, had to go to bed) and had a little play this morning and just now. It’s a very different (but pleasant) synth interface and the Genopatch part is really intriguing. I tried dropping a few different types of samples in and it did a pretty solid job in every case, even when I deliberately tried to “trip it up” by choosing stuff I thought it wouldn’t cope with like chord sounds, real cymbals and very heavy processed drum one-shots like kicks and snares you might use for drum+bass.

I can see it being useful as a learning tool as well, being able to see how to mimic these sounds and what settings to use, what envelopes, what oscillator shapes etc. It certainly demonstrates what can be achieved with a relatively simple (by modern software standards) synth architecture, and I mean no disrespect by that at all. It’s a refreshing way to find a starting point and then be able to tweak from there.

I haven’t spent as much as €149 on any piece of software for a long time so I’ll think carefully first but I think this is genuinely something new and different and not “just” another subtractive or FM soft synth of which there are an awful lot!

Over here making grooves with this thing…loving it so far…

Cool I dig it.

There’s a post on their forums about this. PayPal is disabled atm because it overcharged people for some reason. Will be available again once solved.

It’s often hard to get excited about software synths nowadays but this thing stream lines sound design so much. I do wish the “under the hood” parameters had an easier to view UI, that would be my one gripe is that the layout for the normal synth view just feels cluttered and the big DNA graphic is largely useless in functionality, though it is neat.

That said, the main way you use it is, generating patches and growing branches off the patches and replanting those seeds is such a fun concept that’s made even better with that AI engine.

Combine that with a stem separator and you can basically pluck out any sound (mostly synth sounds) from any song you want and get a clean version of it. And then start morphing and iterating and doing all sorts of weird shit.

Really dope plugin. Been running it through the analog heat and it’s getting crazy over here.

Edit: I don’t know why the post was labeled as a response to the post above me lol.

yeah, the DNA view sucks, its a gimmick, I believe Magnus has even said so, he didnt wanna get rid of the “iconic” look of the original.

Generally speaking the graphic and the colors are horrible, but I don’t care very much

I don’t know, I kind of enjoy the unique retro futuristic thing on it. It’s art for sure. Liking it is entirely subjective, like many other things.

it’s nostalgic for sure

It’s very 90s early 00s internet/video game UI. I’ve grown to love it over the years and I like its overall simplicity. I’m pretty sure over time some awesome skins will be made, the same happened with Microtonic.
