Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

been deep in Roland land recently, figured i should give my buddy a night out. really liking this one. sampled the synths off the mc101, made the bones on the ep133, ran it all through the 404 at the end.

I wonder if we’re ever gonna see firmware updates adding any more features. It’s a lot of fun to play with and it’s great for getting ideas down quickly.

@te-david - Hope you don’t mind me @'ing you! I know Im just a random individual on the internet but would love to see some of these

  • Pattern chain
  • Record Punch-in FX to patterns
  • Erase fader automation per effect, not all effects on the groups
  • High/Low pass filter per pad - in the sound edit menu
  • Resample
  • Reverse sample
  • Audio over USB

Reverse is the weirdest omission of all.

I was going to say dickhead…

the dude who correctly called the ep1320 release on reddit months before the leaked photo is now saying that something new is coming in two weeks. shall we start the hype now or do we wanna wait.

ill start: ā€œif there isnt an update before they release a new product, im gonna poop my pants, on godā€

I’m with you man, we need an update before the next release! Seriously thought we would see one after or with the Medieval release. Arp and resample would be so dope.

If they don’t have resampling I’m gonna poop someone else’s pants.

to throw out my internet barely informed guess, i’d say its op-z field and maybe a ep133 update, we are coming up on the one year mark so some kinda update could be possible. maybe something that adds some connectivity with an op-z field like audio over usb

Is this related to the OP-XY patent filing that’s been posted elsewhere?

Where is this mysterious folk making these prophetic postings?

There’s this OP-XY FCC report have been released

https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/Z23033A/

Does this have info that points to what kind of device it is? I just looked through, but it’s not my wheelhouse lol

i think the OP-XY title is enough to imply an op-z successor, i was wondering what they would call it because op-zf/op-z field sounds bad. OP-XY feels fun and on brand

im pretty comfy with my setup so im hoping im not enamored by it. i wasnt a huge fan of the op-z when i had it, but i also didnt really put much time or effort into it.

I have a feeling that it might be something like tenori on. you know x axis, y axis. and assuming opz was only z axis.

thats a cool idea, some kinda monome grids type deal could be a nifty departure from the norm (norn)

hmm… cartesian sequencing a la mn renĆ© with the generative magic tricks of the op-z, that could make a lot of sense… 🫢

EP-133 was featured in Apple’s Mac Mini launch video

So are you a producer or coder?

Koala Integration?

Garret Wilke reverse engineered the SysEx sequence to load samples onto the EP-133. Theoretically I think anyone could write a companion iPhone app to load samples and directly manipulate sample settings such as trim start/end, root note, etc over USB-MIDI.

I figured who better to ask than Marek at elf audio to bring EP-133 integration to Koala? He said that his primary focus was on their current roadmap, but I think an elf+TE would certainly be amazing and help address some of the current EP-133 workflow limitations, such as re-sampling.

What do you think an EP-133+Koala workflow would look like?

@te-david Thoughts? Could you document the EP-133 SysEx messages so that 3rd party apps could bounce audio to/from the KO2? Would also love to see audio-over-USB so that I could pair with an iOS synth and not hit polyphony limitations.
