What is your favourite sequencer inside Ableton Live?

“Bouncing Notes” in combination with a studio drum rack is instant Free Jazz.

That’s certainly possible. Run as many instances of Pigments as your CPU will allow and route the MIDI to other instruments, plugins or hardware. Alternatively, record the MIDI into clips and use MIDI effects or Transformations (in Live 12) to manipulate the results.

Stock. With a little bit of work and creativity, I can do at least 80% of what other sequencers do, with far more control, especially when it comes to composing larger arrangements, and without the over reliance on randomness and generative tricks, and relying solely on whatever crazy shit I come up with. Basically, I tell the robots what to do, I don’t let the robots influence what I do, fuck that! LOL

Or you could build your own sequencer in Max/MSP/M4L:

I haven’t had a chance to explore it yet but Travelogue by Novel Music caught my attention. It was inspired by Music Thing Modular’s Turing Machine and Mutable Instruments’ Marbles:

I have way to many just started using hardware 3 years ago. SEEDS — Novel Music — Max for Live Devices I thought about making a sequencer as well. Like I said, but im not sure if it costs money or not to get Max.

Tried everything mentioned here (except for the paid stuff without a demo version). Must say that Snake, Sting and Probability Arp really stand out. Excellent tip to throw Sting in front of a drum rack loaded with random stuff!

I noticed that since I have been playing mostly with modular hardware last year, that I really like the ‘let’s see what that does’-approach also in Live.

Very glad you liked the tip! Definitely try to add the lfo modulator thing to the settings of sting, the possibilities are endless

Happy exploring

which of these four do you recommend? is there a couple that are really good, or are they all worth it? I think the idea of a sequencer bundle doesn’t really make sense to me (effects/instruments, yes, but sequencers for some reason no) so I’m interested to know what people think of these

Renoise Redux. I come from a tracker background, I love arranging songs in a DAW, but composing in my head still happens in tracker patterns.

I do it in a different way, I make midi clips, sometimes I record the midi and save the idea. And it’s basically the same stuff the Rytm got in the update.

I wasn’t sure whether to ask in this thread or in the Push 3 thread but does anyone know how to make the Probability Pack work for the Push 3? Despite my best efforts the Probability Pack doesn’t utilize the pads on the Push 3 controller version. I assumed because it works on the Push 2 that the same would be true for the Push 3.

I know it’s possible to edit M4L devices but I’ve never done that. I’m just really trying to find a fun sequencers in Ableton Live that uses the Push 3 well. I enjoy MDD_Snake and the Probability pack but the pads seem useless with those so I end up just using the mouse and that isn’t as fun. Would love something more hands on like the Torso T-1 but since I have Live 12 Suite and a Push 3 I hoped something tactile and creative would be available already.

…apart from the fact, that any sort of quirky or what not else sequencer concept can be created way easier and faster than with max for live, just in bitwigs grid, there’s one universal vst midi plugin that is based on and includes all mfl knowhow like nothing else that i’m aware of, to be used right away in all daws…

really includes all tricks with ease in one simple universal mainframe to enjoy a neverending flow of lucky dips and likewise concrete ideas all at once and realtime…a truu poly metric/melodic/phonic swinging funkyness in all keys and beyond, with all levels of randomness and any sorts of quick changes into all directions and control whishlists…

Concept by AlexKidd: M4L genius.
Design by the folks who do all Arturia’s GUI.
Coding and inner workings by HY plugins.

Simple (and deliberately) simplified workflow to one single pane of info. Loads of randomisation and chance. Take M4L to the people.

One of the best no brainer plugins out there at the mo.
