What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 2)

Quadra thru to stack after midi solutions merger. 2 MIDI outs wasn’t cutting it anymore.
Intention: Less (hopefully) / more (possibly) MIDI hassles

Just make sure the device you are connected to provides enough power for the Quadra Thru.

I did wonder about that but seems to work fine OT > Merger > Quadra thru, OT seems OK to power both MIDI boxes. If there are any issues I can drop the merger for now as OT is currently handling all the MIDI. But I have eyes on (and an input free for) the BCR32 when it comes out…

In the end I will probably want a Blokas Midihub, but this is a cheaper unpowered solution for now.

I’ve never had a problem using a quadra thru from an Elektron box.

Always been a bit curious about the micron, I’ve definitely heard some good sounds from it but I used to see it used for so dirt cheap it is hard to ever want to take the plunge now. Something about the controls on the top looks like it was designed as a fake synth prop for a tv show is the 90s.

Iv’e been playing on it most of the day. I paid £175 for it in pristine condition, no marks, no audio crackling etc.
Seriously some soft synths are more expensive than this and don’t even sound close to the Micron. I’m not looking forward to menu diving but I’ll sample the hell out of this from the MPCX and make patches. There’s a few on eBay now at different prices. I’m trying to grab something else tonight off of eBay if I can get another old classic back I’ll be very happy. Post here if I win :+1:

You should definitely do it!

I use the Digitakt + Red Panda Tensor combo all the time and is a killer using p-lock to do beat repeats, tape stops and random stuffs for live performing.

Also as a little trick, if you don’t have the special midi cables you can use a small trs midi dongle with a headphone plug adapter. It works like a charm.

Nice. Where did you get the overlay from ? I’m considering getting a BCR and a BCF

Here’s a link. Thing is it says €100 shipping to the UK so I got a friend in Germany to buy it for me last night and send as a Christmas card lol

As luck would have it (latest purchase above) I now have spare MIDI ports, partly with this purpose in mind! I’ve got a MIDI to USB B cable but Particle is micro USB (or C) so I need an adapter?

I’m actually not sure about how it works using the usb, maybe you’ll need a host for that.

You can use the ctrl input (used for expression pedal and switchers) with TRS MIDI selecting it in the web editor.

At least that’s how it works for Tensor, but i’d guess is not that different with other pedals.

The Particle 2 manual doesn’t explicitly state MIDI for the ctrl jack, but you’re right it would be surprising if it’s different! This article supports that I think too. Maybe I’ll get one of the Strymon cables.

That looks nice. Are you using the OP-Z to sequence with the opab? I’ve been debating a similar setup, a 42HP lunchbox with the bitbox micro and a couple of other things. Looking forward to hearing what you make!

Yep opz is sequencing via midi using oplab

Will post vid soon as I have something I’m happy with

Finally grabbed an old friend back in as new condition. Iv’e missed this since I sold it in 2003

YAMAHA RM1x

Intentions: I remember these having a rock solid midi timing and be able to control other gear. I didn’t use the internal sounds much however I think I’ll be sampling this a lot in to my MPCX.
Looking forward to some couch jamming on this thing too. I do remember the drum kits were very good on this thing. Can’t wait to get it :+1:

I did a deal for under £300 on Reverb. Just paid for it the guy was super nice too. He describes it as basically new. I’m looking forward to getting some old gear back from the past. All this new stuff they make today doesn’t excite me at all.

The Yamaha SU700 is the groovebox sampler to get if you find one

The RM1x was so so

Iv’e owned both in the past both are good IMO… I’m just collecting old stuff I used to own. I’m living in the past but they made better gear back then so I’m happy about my purchases for sure. This will make a good sound source for making samples etc on the MPCX :+1:

The UCX II great unit, rock solid drivers, excellent conversion and 40 channel recorder to USB media ( external ssd, MicroSd, etc)
Virus TI2 , SP16 , MPC One. Virus doubles as external effects unit via spdif. Routing through RME TotalFx software.
