A Kazoo. It’s pocket size, and always in the key of you.
I used to have one, but found it was a fun instrument for whiling away a few hours but not much use for serious stuff. That mindset of pure fun has its advantages too though admittedly
Yea I love making music with my OP-1 but I kind of prefer using it on the couch and then sampling it and then mixing the samples with other instruments. I find it more like an inspiration tool that has a lot of power. It’s absolutely a go to for me when I am stuck.
The Blackbox looks awesome. I can’t be tempted there anytime soon tho. I have to explore the OT more fully first
Heh, I live in Austin and I’m not going anywhere for the holidays, so I don’t have to choose. But probably Digitakt. A little box of awesome right there. If solace amidst the stress of endless family and holiday bunkum is the goal, then I’d probably prefer my Taylor acoustic, but guitars are an unwieldy pain in the ass to travel with, that’s for sure.
It has limitations but I do really enjoy it. I made room for a 2nd DN and a blackbox instead of getting the OT haha. Seems like a fun/powerful tool for sure. Explore away!
Traveling with an Acoustic is a nightmare. But yea something about a Taylor. You sample it into the DT yet? I’ve been thinking about sampling my Taylor with a Tascam but not sure how many retakes I would have to do…
Ha, we’re on the same page there. I considered a 2nd DN purely as a six voice synth triggered by my guitar midi pickup and all my custom patches being made solely towards that goal and having the other one for regular synth duties or bass/pad beds for the guitar stuff. On another matter, do they chain together with one as the master to get a total of 16 voices or not?
Never thought of trying to chain them that deeply. I just have MIDI OUT from one and MIDI IN into the other and the audio from the 2nd one back in. One does Drums/Bass and the other does leads/pads/random sounds. Just got the other one so still experimenting!
I haven’t! But I’ve just gotten my little studio space set up with a proper mixer and routing so that I can easily just send any source to any destination, so I should try it.
it was autechre! iirc he specified some mic and a copy of digital performer
Ah awesome. The dementia hasn’t quite kicked in for me just yet then. Yes, it was an expensive AKG mic iirc
It should work. I use my OP-1 which uses midi over usb and it works fine.
Seriously, my 2001 Machinedrum.
I just watched Max Marco’s Machinedrum vs Analog Rytm video as it happens. Made me very lusty for the MD, I gotta say
I watched it yesterday.
Visiting the in laws? I‘d take my didgeridoo. Or the Octatrack.
MC-707.
or (if really tight in space) Korg Electribe 2.
Piano
OP-Z. It’s a mini Digitakt with a (not great) synth.
