I threw together an online slice calculation tool for new Rytm users or anyone trying to get their head around how to use chains and slices on the Rytm.
Basically it gives you a list of all the available slice counts for a Rytm sample chain, and when you pick one it shows you the start and end points for each sample.
It’s nothing fancy but it does the job. Of course if I’ve made one or more glaring errors, let me know and I’ll fix it up.
Browser behaviour, I think - it does update automatically in Chrome (for me), but not in Firefox. They must differ in what they consider a change in the value.
I hadn’t considered that aspect, to be honest - I just rattled it off over lunch - but it’d be nice if the behaviour was consistent and as usable as possible - I’ll work something out later.
I did try putting some nice buttons for the slice selection, but aligning them means using one long row of 15 or 3x5 / 5x3, none of which look good (or adding a button for ‘1 slice’, which would be madness).
Just imagine how much easier my life would be if you’d based it around 128 slices…
Hope it helps make more sense of how to use sample chains.

Great! In fact I arrived at the Acid Sound Pack page independently while browsing Rytm packs, and noticed the link to the tool, which I’d forgotten about. So I came to the forum to check for any new comments, and here we are. Glad you find it useful!

Just checked and it’s still working for me. In case you’re having trouble with the bitly short link, the full address is: http://bl.ocks.org/NickDimmock/raw/3e8dd44a8e777129d332/. As I say, it looks fine at this end. You can also get the source code from https://gist.github.com/NickDimmock/3e8dd44a8e777129d332 - it’s a single-page web app, and most of it is CSS. I’ve just added a CC-BY licence to it, which I thought I’d already done. Hope that helps!
