Just be sure to notice my hateful crippled arse that can’t get to the toilet on some days psychically glaring at you standing in the dark in February.
Jokes aside, I’m sure it’ll be a cracking show and I can’t wait to spend some time with the next batch of live sets. Been doing some serious listening to the 2022 sets this week, and they are full of strangeness you just don’t hear elsewhere.
I followed the link from the AE mailing list at 5 past 10 this morning and got the Sold Out message, but when I went back to all AE gigs and then clicked back into the Manc gig it let me buy them, the eTicket arrived no worries and so disaster averted! Seem properly sold-out now.
Really excited, last time I saw them was the 2016 gig at Granada Studios and that was absolutely immense. I generally don’t listen to bootlegs so not sure what their sound is like these days but I’ll definitely be hoping for more stuff in the vein of the last bit of London B.
They’ve come on a fair bit since then in terms of execution. I was at that gig and I’ve seen them a couple of times since. Every time I see them feels like a development from the last time I saw them. I’m really glad they’ve decided to sack off albums for a bit and just work on their live stuff, because that’s where I think what they’re doing now makes the most sense.
I think there’s a noticeable improvement in their arrangements over the last few years and I remember Sean being very excited about the new M series Macs on that AMA he did a few years back, as it meant they could double the amount of channels on their live setup, and that seems to have allowed them to make much more complex and dense arrangements without cluttering up the mix.
The DICE one? When I go there and enter my number, it says it’s sent me an email (it hasn’t), then asks if I want a code texting, but that doesn’t seem to work either.
Cheers, I’m up to speed on the AE_LIVE stuff, I was more referring to the recordings you see pop up on youtube of their 2023/2024 concerts. I prefer not to get my first experience of a live set via the microphone of a 2010 Motorola Razr.
I’m with you on the live stuff for all the long form stuff and the reinterpretations of tracks between sets. Though I did really enjoy Sign and Plus because it was nice to get stuff in a more quickly digestible format. But, yeah, no real rush for a new album, it’s not like there’s a dearth of stuff in the back catalogue to revisit.
I see that the doors for the gig are 7pm so hopefully we’ll find out about support acts soon. Also, the website for the venue makes a song and dance about how good the PA is so that’s cool. Only time I never enjoyed them live was the Confield tour and the PA reduced the sound to an all consuming kick drum and the vaguest of hints at something else happening somewhere. It was also chocked full of coked-up neds…
Sounds good! Then at least we are two! And yeah, I brought it as soon as it was announced, expecting it to sell out quickly. Looking forward to the support too - don’t really know her music that much.
It will be a pretty intense music week, though, with Festival of Endless Gratitude running Thursday to Saturday. Just hope I can find a secure spot at Vega to zone out…the crowd was pretty restless when I saw them at Koncerthuset in 2016. Not much focus in the mobile phone lightened darkness that time, unfortunately.
