You can transfer samples from Android to Move via move.local (you may need to access it using the actual IP address).
Yeah but that’s not what I want
An idea I came up with, anyone like? If so join discord to up vote it!
"Not really sure what to call it, but I’ll go with “Assembled Captures”
Be nice if there was a capture mode for drum rack per pad.
Say you got your 16 pads assigned with stuff, then you hit pad 1, pad 9, pad 6, pad 6, pad 3, pad 1, pad 13, pad 13, pad 13, pad 14 etc… Got this little thing going on but then hit capture and it asks you which pad of the 16 you’d like that capture to go into! Similar to how it asks which pad you want to start recording into.
I think it would be fun and pretty different than what is out there. Think about it. You’d have 1 pad filled with some sequenced loops you captured manually, then another pad doing it, then another pad doing it etc… etc… This could lead to some very interesting and fun looping / song stuff!"
Does this mean that sequences are saved per pad, like on the BlackBox or SP-404? Since moving to Session View to launch clips is a hassle, it might be useful if the 16-pitch pads could trigger clips.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but yeah the Move is surprisingly something I really like. I normally have an opinion on a device in a matter of days if I like it or not. With the following days exploring and then deciding whether to keep. But despite me wanting a Deluge again, money being the major factor I won’t. Playing with the Move has alleviated my GAS for it, and I really do enjoy just taking this out to play and more importantly have fun.
Watched the video, it was a nothing burger. However, one thing which stood out for me and I may get heat for this. but some people are just rude.
Oh lord, I remember when I made a remark on this guys musical talent some weeks ago when someone claimed that he made the “best demo” of the Move. When the chorus in this song hits it’s just nails on a chalkboard, if the guy would just take 60 minutes to learn a bit about musical scales he would be fine. Everything in that arrangement before the first chorus hits is probably the best I’ve heard from him just because it’s in key.
I mean, there even is a function now in Ableton 12 to keep your project in key, all he needed to do was tick that button. I know it’s mean/rude but this guy is obviously musically challenged, which is fine as long as he’s having fun. But he is publicising on a platform where people are also allowed to tell him: “hey, dude, we like the content but maybe practice music some more”.
His music isn’t my cup of tea, but I think there’s been a dick and constructive feedback. It’s why I never post any of my music really, but then I just like to have fun . But it’s comments like that which makes me not want to engage online.
That’s the difference between the YouTube thing and posting stuff here, I’ve posted tunes here that nowadays I’m roundly cringed out by but on the whole the feedback you’ll get is honest and constructive, don’t let what you see there affect what you can do here fella
You’re a top guy, appreciate your replies.
The video was a conclusion (after four weeks?) of what the Move is about right now. You start with ideas and you do your best to finish everything in Live. That was his description and I liked what was said.
Now did I fast forward his song a couple times? Yes, absolutely, but I checked like. People don’t get how time consuming creating a simple YT video is.
Typing the comment was maybe at least 2/3rd the length of the song already, depending on how fast you type. For the YT algorithm no matter how positive or mean the comment is, it is engagement data… You stay on. So that’s good for his channel if he gets more likes than dislikes. Not good for one’s self-esteem in the short run, but great as a youtuber if you can… Move forward.
Yeah, I’m puzzled by this strange notion that just because you communicate on YouTube, you have to also be good at what you do music wise. But if you just post comments on YouTube or a forum, you can be anywhere in the gamut between tone deaf and a musical genius and no one would ever go out of their way to criticize others.
When someone posts a fart sound in the “current sounds from your gear” threads here, people either hit like, comment positively or move on.
Why is it that the bar is somehow higher for a youtuber? There, it seems like some people must go out of their ways to be rude.
FreeBeat’s probably just loves to make music like the rest of us. The only difference is that he wants to connect with people and share their passion with higher fidelity video formats, but he’s just like someone who posts a fart sound in a forum thread. So I say let him enjoy it, get inspired by the information and the passion, or move on.
I think the main difference between here and there is accountability and a sense of community, you can’t really exist and participate in a space like this if you’re an asshole to people, I think when it’s scaled to YouTube levels sometimes (read lots of) it brings out the worst in people, they think they can just call you out and say something shitty because the moderation level is next to non existent… /end rant…
OT
Summary
Freebeat is a drummer who started working with small grooveboxes etc.
I like his videos. His musical style is not contemporary (let’s put it this way) but I find it stupid to call him not musical if you don’t like his style or if some jams could be better. For me it only says something about those who don’t hear any musical qualities in what he does.
And the mean way of bringing it to him in the YT comments is shamefull in my opinion.
They offer negativity to someone who offers enthousiasm, entertainment and information.
The bad will come back to them. Probably already is there, considering their behaviour.
Hi, I was being lazy in my reply and dismissed the video. For me, his thoughts just reiterated what I liked and many others have stated before. It’s basically a summary of what Ableton designed the Move for and hence why I said it was a nothing burger to me.
No worries.
I agree that this is a bad response. I think the individual knows they’re being offensive, and tries to get off by saying they’re not.
also I don’t get the sentiment… they want the youtuber to only post the content this user was happy with, and not the content that was probably what the youtuber got the
device to do
people like this are why I struggle with sharing
After I read “like a Commodore game from the 80’s”, I was like “So this tuber is right up there with Rob Hubbard, Ben Daglish and David Whitaker. I love this guy.”
So that reference misfired
Tuesday morning commute managed to turn out a decent riff on the Move:
