Ok so I’m asking some advice here about a couple of bits of gear I have.
I have the Akai MPCX here and since version 2.8 or something I can use it to control my hardware synths and drum machines, this is all good BUT… last month I bought the iConnectivity MIO XL interface. Now I don’t know what to do with this iConnectivity.
Should I keep this I’m confused? Should I connect everything to the MIO XL and then plug it in to the MPCX? Anyone own both the MPCX and MIO XL and have them working together? Since the Akai can control all my gear I’m wondering why I bought the iConnectivity so someone give some advice on how best to integrate the 2 of these?
You can do much more elaborate MIDI routing/filtering with the MIO XL vs the MPC X.
Too bad the MPC X doesn’t have an ethernet port.
But…
Have you tried plugging the MIO XL’s USB port to one of the MPC X’s USB host ports (USB A-the flat one, not the big one)? Does the MPC see all of the MIO XL’s ports? Then maybe plug one of your synths with USB MIDI to one of the MIO XL’s USB host ports and see if the MPC X can see it.

I’m planning on adding either Behringer Model D or Roland SE02 I haven’t quite decided on which one yet. Also just waiting for a Behringer RD-9 to be released whenever that may be but the above is what i have right now.
Last time I checked my MIO XL wouldn’t talk to my MPC One via USB. Works fine over DIN, but doesn’t give you access on the MPC to other devices connected to the MIO. So you can’t “see” other gear via MPC midi control (although you can certainly assign MPC tracks to midi channels). I tried with a USB A–>A cable to the MPC host port.
That said, I think MIO just pushed a new firmware, so somebody let me know if that’s changed!
I use an MPC X and a Mio Xl together, both with the latest firmware.
The Mio works perfectly connected to one of the Mpc USB ports. I have the mio configured with each port named, and these names also transfer across to the MPC ui.
Its a really nice way of working with my hardware tbh.
So if I connect the MIO XL main usb to one of my MPCX usb ports I will see everything connected to the MIO in the MPCX ?
I haven’t set anything up yet as I’m having house renovations but this would be cool if it works.
That’s right. Every Mio XL channel will be listed on the mpc ui. Set up your preset on the mio to rename the channels as per what is connected and that’s pretty much all there is to it.
I get it now–I usually leave the MIO connected to the computer, but you’re saying I’ve gotta disconnect that and reconnect to the MPC. Makes sense. So I guess it will be either/or between MPC and Ableton…
I just switch cables depending on what I’m doing. However, you could use a separate usb interface to connect to the mpc midi input and set up a preset on the mio to put each piece of gear on its own channel.
Then, you can send midi from the pc and use the mpc at the same time.
It’s a shame there wasn’t x2 usb so one to the mac/pc and one to the mpc
Like I say it’s gonna be at least another month before I can finally set all my gear up I haven’t even plugged in the MIO or anything yet. Seems to be a powerful interface. I could probably even hook up my Overhub to one of the available ports too later on if I ever expanded my gear?
PS
My rack FX… is it worth me having these on their own midi ports on the MIO? Got a couple of Lexicons and Digitechs here. Would love to have them on their own so I can control them.
