Apple AirPods Max

I dunno. People spend a lot on quality headphones. Maybe these will compare well? Knowing how opinionated the HP online community an be, will be interesting to see how user reviews and detailed testing places these in relation to price bracket competitors. Low expectations but who knows.

As for Apple haters… I am old enough to remember Microsoft being the great evil. Success and contempt. I like Apple as I have had thousands of dollars worth or repairs on phones and computers done for free even after warranty expiry. Always feel looked after when dealing with their customer service.

Well, because it literally is kind of dealing with the devil…

Okay, I live in Sweden and here we can just dream of those prices. Here they add a lot to the price.

Here the cheapest 16” M1 costs around $3550 here if I convert it to dollars. And if you want 8 TB of storage its around $7100 dollars.

Re: status symbol

When I see people using overpriced goods, “admire” is not the word I would use to describe my feelings about it. “Sucker” is probably more apt.

I was going to post a reply with few links on how Apple has got its act together and is actually pretty open these days on supplier responsibility, but then I found this:

is this spam? they don’t seem to ship yet?

Hmm…Apple can always ask a premium because of their brand value and design. But they are competing with the Bose and Sony ANC headphones, which are less than half of this price. I think this is stretching it. Also, the smart case is fairly aimed at women imho, it’s like a handbag.

Hey my man, yes European pricing is slightly higher, but you‘re referring to an Intel based system there (16“ Macbook Pro). Those were/are indeed completely overpriced. In comparison, I got a top-specced 15“ Macbook Pro in 2012 for 2500€ all inclusive - half a year ago that would have been the STARTING price. So their intel-based pricing was horribly overpriced!

But the new M1 based machines are a totally different animal. Check their shop for the Macbook Air M1 and the new 13“ Macbook Pro M1 (and the new Mac Mini).

14“ and 16“ Macbooks with the new processors are expected sometime next year.

For me it was exactly the other way around! Logic felt a lot more intuitive and Studio One I kept frustrating over some of the design choices. But with time I got used to it and now I really appreciate Studio One. Just two different design philosophies.

Not spam - if you look at my profile you’ll see I’m a regular contributor and not a spambot :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I bought mine in the first early access window a month ago - I guess they’re releasing them in batches. Anyway, they compare favorably to much more expensive Bose, Sony, and Beats I’ve tried before, but as with all subjective impressions, YMMV…

For the same price you can buy a pair of AKG K371-BT and still have enough to have a pair of Sen HD600 at home… :man_shrugging:

I feel like I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop on the M1 machines. I do feel like these headphones are a bit telling though, that they are still first a fashion/design company then a technology company. Hopefully the M1 laptops hold up, I do still enjoy the ipad line of products so it gives me some hope. Though I would argue apple hasn’t made a good pro level laptop in 10 years now and I’m not totally convinced that they will turn it around.

I cant understand that musicians complain about the price. How much do people spend on big TVs and monitors? 1000? 2000? So spending that much on eye candy is ok, but not for ear candy? Headphones for 1000 Euros can sound extremely good with a lot of details and clarity that you cant get for 100. So Apple taking 600 Euros gives them at least a chance to make something decent and not this boombastic Beats crap.

Airpods pro have a very cool feature with the ear channel mics that prevent the boominess of other ear plugs. So Im very curious how they translate that to the max ones.

I probably wont buy them either, because of the inevitable bluetooth latency and the unnatural sound deprivation of a closed system with anc. But interesting from a technology viewpoint these are none the less.

That “cable looking thig” is a top-down view of where the headband meets the ear cup.

I love how “pricey” is assumed in the title (and the comments). How can we know until we’ve heard them?

Right now they could be 1.3x the price of some HD-650s or 0.3x the price of some Clears. One is highway robbery, the other a steal. We won’t know which it is until they’re on people’s ears.

I think it was a typo. The OP meant to write “spicy.”
