My response to a similar question on the Wavestate thread, followed by responses from other users.

Yes, I tend to use mine as a preset riff generator. Really not that much different than how I use my Yamaha PSR-SX600 arranger keyboard. Generate riffs, record and save what I like, add or replace bits of the riffs with other sound sources, like other synths. I have the first world problem of having so many synths that developing god level patching skills on all of them would be impossible in my lifetime. So I allocate my time and efforts accordingly.

fwiw, I don’t believe there is one correct way to use it, subject to approval by others. If you find a place for it in your music, then the way you are using it is the correct way for you.
