Bax Music bankrupt

Edit: bankruptcy now official

…according to multiple Dutch media. In The Netherlands ‘deferment of payment’ is often the stage before going bankrupt.

Article says there is a long lasting family feud, with an estranged brother now trying to buy back the company. But debt is sky high.

Well it was fun while it lasted. Bought quite a bit of stuff there over the years.

That’s a shame; I like Bax… but Thomann are often cheaper and have more stuff that I actually want to buy if I’m buying new.

Lately, Bax tried to scam and then scare me out of my money for an item that never was delivered. Poor customer service, wrongful claim, false advertising. But good deals at times.

Actually, both my Octatrack and Syntakt came from Bax. Future collector’s items :stuck_out_tongue:

Bax’s B-stock has seemed pretty good to me, much better than Thomann’s tiny pointless discounts. I got my B-stock MEGAfm Mk1 from them for a good price.

Buying online is fairly okay, buying something in one of their physical shops was often an absurd experience. Understaffed and disorganized. Customers standing at empty counters forever. Their new shop in Amsterdam was in a furniture mall at the outskirts. Lots of floor space, not many customers.

Corona virus after effects. It hurt Patchwerks in Seattle, and it reportedly just killed Cosmo Music in the Toronto area. We’ll see if it affects some other retailers.

Bax Music? No, that’s messed up! I get my Devine cables there.

Would be a shame if they will go bankrupt. It’s the last large all-round music store in The Netherlands. When they are gone we’ll be “forced” to buy online from the German stores, which means Thomann mostly.

My synth is there, for repair. Do I have a problem now?

Bax romana spiritu sancti.

RIP

I am not an expert on that, best to try to get in contact with them. But you’re probably not the only one at the moment. Hope they will communicate properly with all current customers.

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Bax, they’ve been great with me.

Well… one of the reasons that Thomann is still alive and Bax is (almost) out of business.

A business needs to gain some profits. A (free) returning process means a lot additional costs, and those products even need some sort of a discount. With those smaller margins nowadays this is a race to the bottom.

With big players like Behringer moving towards a B2C-model this is becoming an even bigger problem. Not just for them, but also for us… it’s capitalism to the max.

Bax in Rotterdam once was Peter Verspuy, with Feedback Music as its (local) competitor. Both grew, were bought and are (almost) out of business.

With a couple of smaller players remaining (mostly small webshops), we are now ‘serviced’ by a couple of bigger online retailers in Germany. For us customers, this is absolutely going down-spiral.

And yes, if I need to buy online I want a good price. But I’m also willing to pay for some extra service before spending my money. So why should an online store take all the loss on profit because some customers keep ordering, trying and returning devices that are demoed all over YouTube?

A local store often has one demo device, online retailers have multiple. You don’t have to be an Einstein to do the Math on this one.

If there’s subtlety here is it reasonable to be so definitive in the title … it seems like by making the title so definitive it may in turn lead to an over reaction

I’d rather see a title here be advisory to the situation rather than being suggestive of the outcome

It’s a nuanced situation, especially with second languages (if the case) … I wonder if this can be communicated more fairly (for Bax) whilst retaining a cautionary note (for shoppers)

I think … (PSA) Bax Music appear to be experiencing business difficulties … is perhaps a more neutral summary

I’ve not seen other news on this (or the link) so it’s a half informed comment, but a hunch tells me this current title is too definitive

My last purchase was from Bax, I’m keen to keep them in the fight by not almost declaring them down and out prematurely I guess …

I can put some nuance into that, but in The Netherlands most businesses go bankrupt after a court order a couple of days after this stage. But there is always a very slim chance they attract new credit lines or an investor that is willing to step in.

Sometimes
Many organisaties go on, sometimes going bankrubcy might be a strategy

It was also on the national news with some more context. They’re basically going into administration but they’re looking into a potential restart, with one of the old founders (who got sacked earlier this year) being potentially interested in buying back stock.
