Behringer Pro-1

yes… amazing deal… now I’m an owner of a pro-1

I have to say, wonderful instrument!

After seeing that the dedicated midi controller for U-he Repro (my favorite VST for a few years now) was more expensive than the Bro-1 I decided to pull the trigger since on the hardware clone. I got a rather nice bonus from the web company I write for so merry xmas to me. Glad to see people are digging it.

Well I finally got a chance to get my Bro-1 hooked up to the studio and give it a test drive. Loving the sound so far, I haven’t had a chance to compare it to U-he Repro-1 yet, but will. I have to say I was rather impressed by the metal case and solid end cheeks (dunno if they are real wood, but they don’t need to be if they are solid).

I’ve now got the RD-8, TD-3 and the Pro-1 from Behringer and it is surprising to me that the quality of the case materials vary so wildly. The TD-3 feels like a toy (sounds great), the RD-8 is solid and feels like the quality is right in the pocket for a drum machine in that price range, while the Pro-1 feels a little more expensive than it is.

I need to get some patch cables : )

It likely does, but make sure you’re on the latest firmware. They made some improvements specifically to the envelopes IIRC.

behringer wise i also have td-3 (*2) , rd-8 mk1, Pro-1 .
and
Ms-1 , solid feel and sounds nice though not a perfect 101,
rd-6 which similar to td-3 , is a bit light and plastic but sounds reasonable.

pro-1 wise i think its quite versatile but i mostly used it for nice bass tones, quite simple patch wise but was a good alternative to the 101 for the tracks .

i dont use any of it nearly enough to justify keeping them, but i’ve gassed for the og’s for years so theyre hanging around a little more.

@sl1200mk2 thanks, I will make sure to check on the firmware version!

@re5et I prefer working with audio in a sampler with resampling or in my DAW, so simple synths are perfect for me, complex synths and really complicated modulation capabilities are lost on me.

I’m same when it comes to the RD-8 and TD-3. I basically bought them because I’d always wanted an original. Mine are paid for with cash and I loathe nothing more than selling gear online so I’ll probably never get rid of mine. Might be a nice starter setup for my niece or nephew one day if they ever show an interest.

I’ve not yet checked the firmware on my unit, but am I crazy for thinking that turning up the resonance really sucks the low-end out of a patch on the Bro-1? I know this is to be expected to different degrees depending on the filter but I was playing around with a patch the other night and was a little let down. Again, I might just be hearing things wrong.

that’s exactly how the Pro-One works too

Behringer’s Neutron filter (which is being fed the same OSC chip) is a totally different design (in house) and it’s one which doesn’t attenuate beneath the cutoff freq

but that is a pro-one thing … and a moog thing

not a fan of it myself, but that’s the way these designs work, luckily i’m not that into big resonance on a filter (except e.g. MS20 where it’s all about the res) so i get by just fine

but it’s nothing to do with the firmware in any case

It‘s even the same way in the Repro 1 emulation of the Pro 1.

I’m not a fan of big squealing resonance… higher state of consciousness was probably the one exception. … and kraftwerk style blips are fine too

Thanks for the responses. I am somewhat unfamiliar with the original Pro-1, I just happened to become obsessed with the U-he plugin. It became my favorite “vintage” VST.

I’m crazy and i bought a Pro-1 on accident. Was trying to buy a Pro-800 lol. I thought I’d never buy a monosynth but now that it’s here I gotta try it.

For those that have had the pro 1 for a while now, how’s the build quality held up?

I’m not a heavy user but have had one since near launch. No issues. Same with Model D. I’m sure there’s people who have had problems, that’s just the nature of anything manufactured, but overall, it’s really hard (IMO) to fault these synths for the price. The Pro-1 sounds amazing and to my ears basically indistinguishable from an original.

Mine has been very reliable after 3 years. No issues at all. I prefer the feel of it over the Neutron and the Model D.

No pro 1 here but my other Behringer synths in that format have all been fine.

I’ve got an OG Pro One and I’d venture as far as to say the B synths have better build quality than my Pro One.

There is also this thread :

probably not the best place to ask this question but its the first place i though of. does anyone know why my pro-1 would be intermittently outputting noise like this for about 1-2 minutes every hour or so?

i increased the volume, its usually just above like a noise-floor level

̶n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶m̶i̶n̶d̶,̶ ̶i̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶i̶t̶s̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶m̶i̶x̶e̶r̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶n̶n̶e̶l̶.̶ ̶s̶o̶r̶r̶y̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶u̶m̶p̶

EDIT - it is the synth. i put it on another channel and it was fine for a little. but now im hearing the same noise. it does seem to be the synth. ill have to try plugging headphones directly into it or something

Have you checked nearby electronics waking up ?
Fridge turning on , tv box doing some stuff. Years ago devices might get interference from a taxi radio

Try putting it on different mains plug connectors

I guess it might also be recalibrating the ‘analog bits’ …

Update - ok I see it’s something to do with mixer

yeah its an old mixer. it does sound like weird data interference or something. i suspected usb noise at first

thanks for the help
