New things from Pittsburgh Modular & Cre8Audio.
Interesting, will have a watch in a bit. These guys did the East Beast and West Pest, right?
Yes.
Just checked, it was with Pittsburgh Modular help in that case as well.
West Pest’s oscillator, designed in partnership with the ultra-serious people at Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers. Thanks for checking out. Edited my post.
They are part of the same corporation.
Assembler looks like a fantastic option for the people who need a compact synth mixer. If I end up moving to a smaller space it could roughly take the place of my Mackie 1202.
The interface on the drum machine seems well implemented considering the limitations , using the 16 trigs to display conditional / chance etc.
I’d say it’s more for the eurorack crowd rather than small standalone crowd who have more elaborate options.
$399/€319 according to synthanatomy I guess it depends on current tariff insanity, but that statement will be relevant for a while.
I like the digital side of Boom Chick. Lots of interesting options. Guessing this is the work of the software person at Pittsburgh. Good work.
Early prep for Superbooth.
These look delightful, but the lack of modulation inputs besides trigs on Boom Chick seems like a missed opportunity. There are already plenty of analog drum machines around this size and price, but having one that you can feed and modulate with CV would be a real advantage.
Hmmm… now I’m thinking about how modulation and the ability to route an LFO or three really increase the breadth and scope of a groovebox.
But it also increases the price.
Cre8audio stuff like the East Beast and West Pest are fairly affordable. And at $399, Boom Chick is pretty affordable.
I need to watch a few more videos though… because I’m also interested in the octave ranges and tuning/detuning capabilities of its six kit components.
But if it is only as versatile as another 606 or 808 clone… then I’m probably going to pass on this because like many, I already have a Digitakt, Drumlogue, SH-4d… and a Twisted Electrons Blast-Beats. So I probably don’t need another six track analog paper weight.
I think the 12 step program was a success… because I’m finally over my G.A.S.
Is it just me, or is the kick about as punchy as a wet fart?
At least, it’s a funny sound
I really like the knobs they use. Having them on a mixer is pretty cool! The Boom Chick competes with Drumbrute Impact and a few others. But price and feature set make Drumbrute Impact basically the direct competeter. Impact sounds very punchy, Boom Chick has twice the FM drums. Sequencer seems pretty similar.
No modulation is a real bummer here. Even a single cv input that one can digitally route to different mod destinations would have made a difference…But I know, it’s not christmas or wish-a-synth.
How cool is that? Looks like an Evolver drum machine. Awesome!
Fittingly, the Tempest’s voices were indeed derived from the Evolver.
Just posted it because of the name though… Terrible.
Cheers!
Boomchik was the pisstake name we used to give to drum machines back when I was all punk and drums and in bands and stuff. Wasnt into electronic music then.
Now I am, its still a shit name for a drum machine. Doesnt sound very good either does it?
