Boss RE 202

New Roland pedal coming out, emulation of the old space echo.

Loads of youtube guitar vids already up.

It kind of got incorporated into this thread about its smaller sibling:

Yeah. Not sure why. It’s a seperate product.
Anyway. I think its pretty cool.
But what ever. Mods can delete this thread if they want.

If it’s 100% an RE2 but in a new skin, then please advise below, it may make more sense to pool chat in one topic … no issues with two topics myself, but others (with a horse in the race) may know better

Here’s another RE-202 demo with synths and a focus on Ambient, Electronica and Dub Techno. Maybe you find it useful.

Yes it was. You reminded me of its existence. Yesterday, I bought a Source Audio Collider. I returned it in favor of the Boss RE-202 cause I already have the Nemesis and the Ventris.

And how’s the boss?

I don’t know yet, I’m at work.

Standard synths person complaining about delay pedal: Too bad the RE 202 is mono in, stereo out, right?

No, Stereo In, Stereo Out or any combination.

Added a picture.

There is also a MIDI In and Out and a USB.

The power adaptor is included.

you’re confusing 202 with their analog delay pedal, the 101 :sunglasses:

You’re right. The DM-101 is like this :

And so how was your boss?

I’ve used the RE20 for years now in my live set-up: so responsive and the reverb is simple yet magical.
I hope the RE202 is not as good so that I don’t GAS for it!

I didn’t plug it yet. I had the RE 20 several years ago and loved it very much. I’m sure the RE-202 will deliver as much (or more) as the RE 20.

Also :

Sonic Enhancements

The RE-202 includes many new features that extend the Space Echo for today’s musicians. Twice the delay time is available, along with a fourth virtual tape head that unlocks five additional sound combinations. There’s also an echo type that changes the distance between the heads, something not possible with the original. In contrast with the mono RE-201, the RE-202 provides true stereo I/O and selectable operation for guitar or line-level devices. For the dry sound, you can choose between the warm and fat RE-201 preamp tone or a clean signal with zero processing.

Also included is a stereo version of the original spring reverb sound from the RE-201, along with hall, plate, room, and ambience types for additional versatility. Expressive Warp and Twist effects are available as well, allowing you to launch the sound into outer space with the press of a footswitch while performing.

I love this thing alot.

There are a few things (as always with roland) confusing about the manual/device - but the sound quality is lovely.

I use it with stereo ins and the sound stage is really wiiiiide used that way.
Nevertheless I also love it with mono in stereo out.
It’s the closest you get to an emulated original. Can highly recommend.

Yeah, you’re right @Tchu and @g3o2. It feels odd that they give this rather limited delay a stereo in and the way more versatile one only mono in, although the case looks more or less the same. Well, it’s good I don’t have to think about it then.

I’ve had the RE20 for years and its always found a use, so I imagine this updated pedal is excellent

Question to you BOSS enthusiasts if you could elaborate on your real world use case here, because I’ve owned a number of their pedals over the years and ultimately moved away from them because they didn’t have true bypass. My understanding is that the RE-202 is also a buffered bypass; moreover isn’t made with line level in mind. I’ve done tests with these on synths and the change to signal quality is just too noticeable for me to use them for anything other than guitar.
