Computer Video Game Recommendations

All configuration is via the app, and it works great out of the box for me. Defaults in 2023 are much better than a decade ago.

Mannnnnnn.
Freaking Baulders Gate is amazing. I donā€™t even like turn-based fighting that much, but this has got its claws dug deep.
Get it! Big time Game of the Year contender, and with this year so far, thats saying a lot. Crazy to think how many grand slams this year has put out so far, and how many more are to be released before years end.

Managed to convince my dad to play Disco Elysium last night, and it brought me so much joy seeing him (a real life lawyer) go around telling everyone heā€™s the law. I was honestly surprised how much he seemed to be enjoying himself despite some technical issues (and the fact he is decidedly not a gamer).

Sounds like heā€™s had a few weekend benders in which he acquired amnesia. At least thatā€™s why I related to the main so much.

Got Vampire Survivors for the Switch.

Damn thatā€™s addictive for a super simple game.

+1 to this.

prior, Iā€™d pretty much moved over to only playing VR titles (PS5/PSVR2), finding few flatscreen games appealing.

but BG3 brought me back (to SteamDeck), got me hooked.
Iā€™m getting deeper into Act 2, and it just keeps getting betterā€¦
the more I play, the more I feel like I want to do another play through as a different character class/outlook (after finishing this one)
so many good things about it, story, gameplayā€¦ and the controller support is amazing considering the complexityā€¦ Im pretty tempted to get it for the PS5 too.

Despite having recommend specs (Radeon RX Vega, Ryzen 7, 16GB RAM, SSDā€¦), the performance are incredibly bad on Baldurā€™s Gate 3. 15-30 fps in ultra, 20-40 fps in low with big fps drop here and there.

its actually performing ā€˜okā€™ on the SteamDeck, as long as you are careful with settings, and take into account the size of the screen, I can get a steady 30fps.
though, I think SteamDeck would struggle at 1080p, which is why Im waiting on the PS5/Mac version for larger screen use !

that said, reports of ā€˜locked in fpsā€™ are probably not 100% accurate.
my 30 fps was very consistent for Act 1, and most of act 2, - but when, I hit a really big battle, it tanked (15fps) - looked like bottleneck on one core for cpu load, rather than gpu.

that said, this battle was a bit ridiculous in size, caused by a major mistake on my partā€¦ which I didnā€™t surviveā€¦ thoughā€¦ I took down a lot of foes with me  ( * )
(even if Id have survived, itā€™d probably have made the rest of the campaign nigh impossible )

(*) I think this was the issue, it was rendering many surface effects, like fire, ice, spikesā€¦ which Id cast to setup some kind of defence against onslaught, and then various other magic effectsā€¦ and then a ton of dead bodies - to the point I was finding it hard to target/see the ones still alive.
ā€¦ have to say, even with the low fps, it was still pretty epic!

Im waiting on the PS5/Mac version

Is it not on Mac yet? The steam store page says it is, but a cursory Google search confused me a bit.

Itā€™s still in EA (early access) for Mac.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is out today! If you liked the Jet Set/Grind Radio games, this one was made to fill the void. Looks like itā€™s getting good reviews so far.

Baulders Gate 3 is really good and Iā€™ve had a few memorable experiences from it, but it does seem a little bland in-between the parts that shine. It just doesnā€™t have the most personality. Playing Baulders Gate 3 sent me back to play Disco Elysium because that game is just dripping with personality. Itā€™s one of the few games Iā€™ve ever played that is genuinely funny and also crushingly sad.

Yeah that was confusing for me too, I bought it and downloaded it on Mac but it was just the early access version. I have bootcamp setup on my mac so Iā€™m playing on a windows partition, and it runs well, but I was hoping to avoid the tedious process of switching operating systems every time I wanted to play it. Allegedly itā€™ll be on Mac in a few weeks.

Does anyone have any experience with Xbox cloud gaming?

I donā€™t have the space or cash to buy an Xbox just for starfield, but it looks like with cloud gaming and my MacBook Pro I donā€™t need to.

It also seems like the PS4 controller is compatible but if I had to buy an Xbox controller that wouldnā€™t be too problematic.

there was talk of early Septemberā€¦
but Id assume Larian will focus resources on the PS5 release on the Sept 6th, so perhaps a few week after that ?!

@alexleigh83, Ive not tried xbox cloud gaming, but tried GeForceNow, which worked ok, but not great for me (well, my network)

Itā€™s (obviously) highly dependent on your networking, specifically latency and reliability.
I had a bit too much variability in my network for it to be usable. but Im using Starlink, so I kind of expected this
if you have a good fibre line, itā€™ll fair much better. overall, try to sign up to something for a month and ā€˜give it a goā€™.

(again, this was geforcenow, id assume xbox cloud gaming is very similar)

as for controller on Mac, yeah, Ive used a PS4 controller without any issue with Steamā€¦ and, given starfield is also a pc release, id assume itā€™ll have PS4 controller supportā€¦ but guess, weā€™ll only know on release.

Iā€™ve been playing a lot of Hell Let loose on PC and canā€™t wait to get it for PS5 because Iā€™m a console gamer but so far itā€™s the best militar sim game Iā€™ve played ! Iā€™m a huge battlefield guy my favs are bf1 and bf4/5 I like the ww2 and ww1 PvP games the most! But itā€™s so fun and I just play whatever role they need usually medic and get really into it and role play like my buddy husk here.

If anyone wants to play with me on PC HmU !

Thereā€™s about 3 other sqaud based games like this that came out like sqaud (modern) , beyond the wire (ww1) and a new Vietnam one that I forgot the name of. There is also a really good co op one that came out Vs AI called 6 days in falujah! Anyways see you in the fall grass soldiers ! But yeah most epic moment was I revived 7 guys on the front lines in a row as a medic. But yeah tons of epic moments in this game and funny ones. And good times with your sqaud mates.

Yeah itā€™s amazing jet set radio future is my fav game it got me into rollerblading and Iā€™ve been an aggressive skater since I was in elementary school and this new bomb rush cyberfunk added a few new age tricks and moves you can do while your just skating down liek that leg cross spin and the one foot spin around ! Style ! And they are back with more musical bangers that wonā€™t get old like the last OsT but thatā€™s only 1 hour in I muted the first garage base song because it was like vocal trap garbage ahaha!

I played Immortality this way, on a steam deck via Xbox cloud. It wasā€¦fine? My wifi is pretty ok, but I donā€™t think Iā€™d play a twitchy shooter this way, thereā€™s enough lag that I think it would bother me
