I think for my use case, tracking out stems by recording the crossfader will be very easy. Please confirm or point out any gotchas….
I usually make very simple patterns that I want to finish in Bitwig. Can’t I just track out solo’d stereo pairs of my choosing by recording the crossfader,
since I do want to make use of scenes? Assume I have no master FX on track 8. I can do mutes in the DAW.
I know crossfader recording is on midi CC 48, I just want to see if there’s anything I am missing, since so many people complain about not being able to track out stems using the Octa. Thanks…

Crossfader CC48 is sent on the lowest midi channel set in MIDI > Channels (audio tracks channels). Not sent if channels are set to OFF.
You can automate scenes changes with the arranger, or automate mutes.
Internal recording…

Cool, thanks. Internal recording wouldn’t apply if I am soloing tracks for recording into DAW, right?
I wanted to record my jamming with scenes and crossfades, not automate them.
You can record internally what you record from MAIN and CUE in your DAW.
Internal recording avoid DA/AD conversion, but it is limited to 8m28s with free RAM (no Flex slots, cleared recording buffers,)

Dynamic Recorders : Yes
Reserved Recordings : None
Okay so for Bitwig users I got it working to record the crossfader by adding a Generic controller in the Dashboard. Hit the Learn button there and wiggle the crossfader. For me midi CC 1 showed up as 48, which I knew was progress. Then in the Bitwig HW Instrument device, add a Midi CC Note Fx and right click the first knob and select “map to controller key” and move the crossfader. Now the fader moves that knob in realtime, but it still wasn’t totally working (I think because of the generic device controller remapping midi cc 48 to 1). So then on the Midi CC device in the Note FX, scroll to the second page using the down arrow at the top, and for knob one, move the CC Index knob up to 48. Now that knob seems to be properly mapped to cc 48.
Before adding the generic controller I couldn’t get knob movements working, maybe there is another way but this seems to be working for me now.
