Connecting multiple external instruments

Im looking into a Digitone 2 as an option to be my master sequencer.

My setup is an S2400, Behringer Cat, Edge and Korg Prologue. Currently my S2400 is the master, but the idea would be to add the Digitone and for that to control everything.

So 16 tracks is pretty much perfect - rouhgly 8 tracks from S2400, 3 for my synths and 5 remaining for digitone synths.

How would i connect multiple synths - would this simply using midi through each device and the utilising channels 1-16 accordingly? Is USB Midi Out and Midi Out possible together ?

Do your devices have midi-thru ports? Otherwise you can use an active splitter.

Blokas Midihub, trust me.

Korg prologue doesn’t have a midi thru port and going midi thru to 4 devices is probably the maximum that you want to stretch out the midi daisy chain so if you plan to add anything else to this setup I’d look at a splitter / thru device.

Theoretically, if you plan to stick with what you have here and add no additional hardware then you’d want to send midi out of the Digitone 2 into the S2400 midi in / midi thru to Cat / midi thru to edge / midi thru to the prologue’s midi in at the end of the chain.

I don’t know that elektron differentiates between USB midi out and DIN midi out. Some companies like akai let you run them in parallel, but is there a reason you need USB midi with this setup? All of those devices which you mentioned can use DIN connections and the only one without a thru port is the prologue.

In the long run it will probably make your life easier if you get a midi thru box (splitter) like others are suggesting. Fundamentally though, you can do this without any extra hardware, just DIN cables to connect the S2400 and the additional synths to the digitone 2’s out port.

Yeah, may be a bit more than a standard kensington or other active splitter, but does have tricks.

Someone on here recommended it to me when I was looking for a way to send midi notes to multiple synths. You get a midi splitter and you can expand the capabilities of your synth in the process.
