Digitakt Input vs Headphones Out

Hi Elektronauts
At first I want to say hello because this is my first post here. I am new user of Digitakt for a month and I still learn new things how to produce music. This is just my hobby. I do not have any monitor and interface. Just Elektron box, headphones and laptop for recording performances. Anyway I think about some gear updates in near future. As am a fan of fat analog sound consider Mood Minitaur. This is something huge.

Here is my question. I want to connect Minitaur (or any synth) to Digitakt (using input) and heard both on headphones pluged into Digitakt. Is it doable or I will heard just a sound from Elektron box? Of course midi signal will be transported with separated cable as well.

Thanks for any advise!

Hi, you use the internal mixer with the signal from minitaur into digitakt’s inputs and you can hear it in your dt headphones. welcome.

Also good to know: when you record the digitakt over USB to your laptop, you can also record the minitaur at the same time if you don’t need every instrument as a separate signal. The audio is mixed inside of, then carried from the digitakt as part of the audio output for your recording. DT is also an audio interface for this purpose.

Welcome @HansBlaster!

Yes, you can connect an external source of audio to Digitakt, and hear both on headphones, as well as sample from that source into Digitakt. There is a mixer page. The manual has all the details.

Many thanks for quick replies! Now I see new possibilities without huge investments. By the way do you think, Minitaur is good choice for first synth? I am aware of its functionality and limits but heard samples and it may sound even pretty high. This is superb quality in compact size (what is important for me)

@plragde I checked manual and Digitakt itself. On mixer page I see only input levels. There is no word about headphone output. Do I miss something?

The headphone output is the same as the main output.

As @plragde says, you can plug other instruments into the Digitakt, and use it as a mixer. You can also add delay and reverb to those inputs.

And you can also choose between one stereo input, or two mono inputs.

The Minitaur will be a great companion for the Digitakt.

It’s in section 13.6 of the manual. You can control the L/R level of incoming audio, which is mixed into the main out and headphone out, and you can also control sends to the effects, which is very handy.

Thank you both! It is clear for me now

Just wanted to add that, if you can find a used Moog Sirin, then it will be almost identical to the Minitaur, but with extended range in the higher registers (can play higher notes).

For both you can also control a lot of parameters via MIDI CC, that goes beyond what the Minitaur/Sirin have available on the front plate. The Digitakt is a great box to do that with

Yes, Sirin would be perfect but it is impossible to find it in my country :disappointed_relieved:

Minitaur isn’t a bad choice, you’ll always find having a dedicated bass synth useful. At that price range though, there’s a lot of great options so make sure to spend some time reading up & watching before you buy. Be aware that Digitakt can do synthesis by itself too!

Also, def grab and print out the Digitakt cheat sheet that @DaveMech has so kindly created and set as pay-what-you-want from his site:
