How do i connect my digitakt to my audio interface? Just with a midi cable?
2x 1/4" TS cables from the Left and Right outputs into two channels on your interface
Midi out from the digitakt to your interface if you plan on using it as a master clock, though it sounds like youâre pretty new to this so I wouldnât worry about that just yet.
Midi only carries data (such as note on / off, velocity, ectâŚ), you canât pass audio through a midi cable. 1/4" cables; like you would use for a guitar; carry only audio.
Give the manual a read and watch some videos on basic audio routing. If youâre stumped send me a private message and Iâll help get you going
One more question: So if i connect my DT to the main outs of my interface, where do i plug my monitors?
No. You plug the OUTs of the Digitakt to the INs of the interface.
And what about the monitors? i use 1/4 trs cables for those
What are your monitors plugged into now?
My monitors are plugged into my main outs. Thats where im confused. dont know how to hook up my digitakt and monitors to the same interface.
How about you describe the expected outcome, i.e., what youâre trying to achieve? Do you want to hear your Digitakt through your interface or do you want to sample some sound from your interface with the Digitakt?
Think about it:
Your monitors will OUTPUT whatever comes OUT of your interface. So connecting your speakers to your interfaceâs Main OUT is correct.
Your Digitakt on the other hand is an instrument that produces sound. If you want to hear that sound through your speakers connected to your interface, you need to INPUT that sound into your interface. In order to do that, you take the sound that comes OUT of the Digitakt (via the Digitaktâs Line Outs) and send it INTO your interface (via your interfaceâs Line Ins). Because your Digitakt outputs in stereo, ideally youâd connect both OUTs (Right and Left) on the Digitakt to two Line INs of your interface using two TS cables.
Depending which interface you have, those LINE IN connectors could be in the front or back of your interface.
EDIT: I saw in another post of yours that you want to sync your Digitakt to Ableton Live. As far as I know, itâs better to have Live as Master and the Digitakt as Slave. So IF your interface has Midi Connectors, you hook up your interfaceâs Midi OUT to your Digitaktâs Midi IN & turn on the âSyncâ for your Digitakt in Abletonâs Midi Preferences Panel. If you donât have Midi Connectors on your interface, you can connect your Digitakt to your computer via USB, same same (in this case also you need to turn on âSyncâ for the Digitakt in Live).
Thanks! This the answer ive been looking for. Sorry guys if i sound dumb. new to the community.
We all been there hahaha. It is basic but weirdly confusing
Hi to all, I am using the Digitakt too with Ableton and no sound there :-/ no issue with the analog keys (1 midi track and the 4 audio tracks)⌠I am using the USB + an audio interface and I tried several things but still no sound can you please help? thank you very much
Digitakt is not streaming audio over USB atm, if this is your question.
Thanks for your reply. Can I use it as external instrument? to play it at the same time as the analog keys but in Ableton (in case i would like to record both?). Thanks.
Have you got an interface, if so how many inputs? Do you have a mixer?
Yes, I have. This is the scarlett 2.2 and I have a mixer too.
Yes. Simplest way is to record Keys into Ableton using Overbridge. Digitakt has to be connected into Audio In of the Keys so the Keys are used as audio interface. Alternatively you can use your Scarlet as audio interface for Digitakt
Thanks
Also a noob here. I connect as suggested and can only hear through the headphones. I am using a NI komplete audio 6 and have made sure the right inputs are switched. Not sure what to say. I connect my DT to the audio interface and there is no sound through the powered speakers connected from the interface. I can connect the DT right to the speakers. Not sure if that would really matter for what I am doing here.
TS like normal guitar cables? could it also be a TRS? I actually have been using microphone cables, (TRS to XLR) but today I read that that kind of cable would be too much when my interface expects a mic signal, and would clip.
