Digitone 2 - Encoder A Issues

Hi guys,

I received my brand new digitone 2 today. Encoder A is immediately causing problems. When I turn the potentiometer. The values move back and forth. In small steps.
The error is visible on every page.
I checked it again in test mode and you can see it very clearly.
Did a factory reset. But this did not help.
So I strongly assume a hardware defect.
Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this?
Otherwise I will unfortunately have to send the device back :frowning: But in Germany the digitone is currently out of stock. Thats bad

You need to send it back or talk to Elektron directly.
Bad luck I guess.

oh no,
I was afraid of that

If you try to fix it yourself you could break warranty.

I only received the device today. I’m not going to open it. Well, I’ll send it back then. What a shame

so, if it were me including my overall experience with this issue, I would highly consider returning it.
The reason I say that is I have a Digitone 1 with the same(ish) issue where my encoder A changes a small amount randomly. Yours sounds worse but I guess it’s somewhat relative.
Anyway, I sent mine back to Elektron for repair (I had to pay shipping there) and they returned it with a new encoder (it didn’t match the colors of the others so I was sure) but, the issue still happens.
Due to not seeing others mention it, I believe the fault is somehow on the circuit board or something else hardware related other than the encoder and not a software/OS bug. Regardless, after having to spend money on shipping and be without my DN for a bit, the issue remains.
So, you may want to start with a new one.

I’ve noticed this issue on mine, it’s also happening on my DT2 sometimes too :grimacing:

i thought the devices are built totally indestructible. i only had hard pad problems with my RYTM MK2. hmm now i also have the new digitakt 2. after it replaced my old one. everything fits with it. and the old digitakt lasted forever. too bad… well i’ll contact the dealer. i hope he still has a new one in stock for an exchange… otherwise, i’ll send everything back first… really sucks

hopefully this won’t happen with my new digitakt2. i use it every day lol

I didn’t notice that but I see that I have 3 encoder that are moving a bit sideways, as if it is not well fixed. I don’t have that type of trouble on any other elektron machine.
Sad to see that on a brand new digitone 2

A couple of my encoders on the OG Digitone have the same behavior. I have a little hack which mostly tames this behavior. I rotate the encoder, but while rotating it, I press the encoder sideways around the 360 degrees of the circle. Rotation and precession, combined. YMMV.

That sucks man, but especially during warranty just send it back, don’t go hacking yourself. Or better, get the shop to send another new device. Might take a bit longer, but personally I don’t like receiving a new device that needs to go back to repair immediately. Bit of a good customer relationship thing to just send a new one as replacement.
