Empress Echosystem

Following up the Empress Reverb with the new Echosystem. Due for release in the spring.

I’ve been stalling on getting a delay pedal, but without any doubt, I’ll be getting this.

  • love the name, wonder why it hasn’t been used already.
  • love that one of the algos is named “whisky”.
  • love that two knobs are called “thing 1” and “thing 2”.
  • love that you can have two different delays in the same time…
  • still love my Empress comp.

These guys are really good.

That multitap is very cool. And the dual delay. Mmmm.

Might think about selling my timeline for this. Though I f#&king love some of the sounds I get out of that box…

Can you do dual or L/R delay on your Timeline?

I sold a timeline a few years back and have been umming and ahhing over wether to get another. But this sound nicer ro my ears.

Not with two separate patches simultaneously

The things I’d miss most with the timeline would be all the super weird stuff. I have an el cap so wouldn’t miss the tape. Didn’t really see anything yet from the Empress to show the weird side of it to be able to compare. But guessing the vids that show the lofi and whisky modes will be the ones to look out for…

Edit - Id also miss the timeline screen. I have the Empress reverb and I like it but my brain works way faster if I have a clear visual ref. Which I miss on this kind of box with storable presets. Also wondering how tweakable this delay is compared to the timeline, seeing as there are no menus…

Echosystem is the name of a Subjex album from a few years back!

“Echo System” to be precise
Thx for the dicovery anyway.

I want I want! The mostest awesomest delay box I’ve seen! Dual delays and L/R split combo

Quite expensive though

Couldn’t see the price? Do you know what its likely to be?

Oh I couldn’t see price either but their similar boxes are £450

I got one, it is really awesome. I tried the timeline at the same time at the store and the echosystem came out on top every time, and the dual engine functionality takes it to another level. Also it has different algos for each mode, 4 tape modes for example which make it much more diverse than the timeline, and the ambient algos along the reverse ones take it to weird territory easily.

I bet we willl se more timelines second hand as these become available.

Got one too last week. I loved the timeline and often regretted selling it, but the empress is at least just as good, but can do sooo much more. I don’t think there is any mode on the timeline that cannot be approximated by the empress, but the empress has many modes that can’t be done with the timeline. The interface has some combo’s to learn, but I prefer that to the menusystem of the timeline. I hope to do a vid some time soon

Best money I’ve spent on gear in a long while, and I’m including the Digitakt and serious additions to my modular. I love not having a screen, it’s so much more inventive and surprising without dialing in values all the time. This gem really brought a huge dimension to my rig, I’m looking forward to adding their reverb. Well done Empress!

Cool!…. Thanks for posting!

Hi there,
here’s a demo video of the fantastic Echosystem. Tbh, I don’t know why the effect pedals from Empress receive so little attention in comparison with other companies like Strymon. Excellent sound, lots of possibilities, and well built… Anyways, maybe you find it interesting or helpful.

I’m on a quest to find the perfect delay for a mixer stereo send/return setup. I tried quite a few pedals, but didn’t find the right one yet. I have two questions to owners of the Echosystem:

  • Does it work well with line levels? I don’t see a dedicated line switch in the manual. There’s a pad setting for the input, so that should be fine. But is the output level high enough to drive a mixer fx return properly?
  • If I would connect the Echosystem via stereo send/return and use the split mode: Are the output signals of the two enginges always separated L/R or is there a way to pan them?

I’m using mine as the send on a Mackie desk with no issues. Haven’t tried it in split mode but my understanding is that the engines can’t be panned.

More and more I find out how essential delay is to my music and sound design. The echosystem seems like the perfect box to double down on delay. Are there any downsides when using it with synths/OT that I should be aware of? I especially like that it is hands on and knobby, makes it look really playable. Is the handling of two delays and switching between their settings cumbersome or intuitive?
