Hey there. Im staying for a week n amsterdam, first time coming from greece. My first impression is that everything seems so well organized. I am kinda afraid of them bikes. You must be aware of your surroundings all the time.
Anyways. I m looking for anything synth related around town. Are there any places that do live synth techno, electro, or whatever shows?
Where should i go?
Anything rave related??
get hammered and listen to the sounds of the city whilst tripping - that will sound like music, esp when the bell tower chimes in time with the whooshing noises of the bicycles, it will all make sense
Garage Noord seems cool. Tim Reaper tomorrow. Never been to Amsterdam but many of my fave labels and artists are there so I guess its easy to have fun.
For rave/techno clubs check Bret, Radion, and the new queer club Raum. I might add some more if they pop into my mind. Lofi I’ve had good nights, Thuishaven if you like the (partially) outside city beach vibe. (Added @proskynesis oh yeah Garage Noord can also be nice)
Midi Amsterdam for gear.
PS doesn’t look to be anything related now on the programme, but for future reference, sometimes OT301 (former squat kind of organisation) has live electronic music.
Rush Hour record store, not just for the vinyl, but they also have regular in store events. EDIT: oops, @wouzer beat me to it. Great minds and all that, I guess…
Also highly recommended: a trip to the beach, e.g. Bloemendaal, although it’ll probably be quite busy at this time of the year. If you can squeeze it in, Rotterdam is always worth a visit, too.
I like Rush Hour but Bordello A Parigi is actually my favorite record sctore and label in Amsterdam. It’s on the edge of the RLD and central station. They have a nice aperitivo bar on the Zeedijk too with usually some DJs playing, all very laid back. More italo and disco than techno or rave though. There’s a party Sat in Noordwaards that looks fun, if campy - DISCO TOTAL (@disco.total) • Instagram photos and videos and I remember somebody told me they have some live stuff there, not sure though.
Noordwaards is in the same area (around ‘Gedempt Hamerkanaal’) as Garage Noord and there’s a few more food and nightlife spots there, it’s one of the few raw-ish bits of Amsterdam left so worth checking out before it gentrifies further.
We (the family) had a good time at Our House (https://www.our-house.com/).
Loud music ! so might not be for all. Some music gear displayed and you can play around with some of it.
Ohh and the kids had a blast at The Upside Down - Amsterdam - Typical tourist thingy, but okay,
https://www.bimhuis.nl is a cool venue and has some amazing views. Largely jazz music but I saw Flying Lotus/Hud Mo there many years ago so they occasionally have other sorts of stuff on.
Shame De School has gone. Saw Bok Bok and… others there some years ago. Couldn’t believe how laid back the bouncers were when it came to having a little something in your pocket, always a good sign
