[Found] Colugo’s Blockhead DAW

I’m not sure if the dev was talking about audio only or midi only or both but his whole concept was he just places audio/data anywhere on the timeline … or there was no timeline … I know I know, anyway just came out within the last 4-6 months
for the life of me I can’t remember  and am finally ready to pull the trigger on it I think

  1. was it that army brown colored hardware thing?

it was software, the devs whole concept was something like he was to lazy to be bothered with traditional daws, so he made his own alternative

  1. did it appear on elektronauts?

can’t remember, I almost I feel like I would have posted it to let the fam know about it but I can’t find it if I did

hmm…

  1. Do you remember if it was cross platform? (mac / windows)

I don’t, I’m on a Mac though

you might think of Colugo who drilled up Godot-Game Engine for his UI. Ever since writing a plugin based environment that steps out of classic DAW thinking and also steps out of Godot-scripting. One has to know that Godot has a nice Audio-Bus system implemented but no nice midi that fits the needs nor realtime demand of a daw today. So he basically developed everything from scratch. It’s nice to watch him overcome the same challenges independent development brings but also offers. Here you go…

At least its the first i could recommend might fit your description. There are many more projects.

you are very welcome. Glad that is it, cause its indeed a very exciting project. Was even thinking to join efforts sometime… but i’d wait a bit more, maybe hook up his API for some nice stuff later.

By pure luck: Asking right into it as well… In case someone has a link to a published pure cpp based boilerplate for app dev making use of Godot as framework, i’d interested to dig into it. I made some attempts lately to figure out if there is something in it for me and basically stopped when i discovered how many script based stuff makes audio/midi dev for godot quite difficult. Which is in my mind the actual big thing Colugo cracked…

Word, I started looking backwards at music software news stuff because it sounded really familiar to me after you were talking about it, but since I don’t work in the daw that much this stuff usually goes in one eye and out the other. Nice one shredrr, really hit the shot like Jordan!
