Can anybody advise. the NI site is a nightmare. Can my friend get help to activate his Maschine 3 or should he take it back to cash converters for a cash refund. is it hopeless?
I thought NI had changed it now that you just register it and you get the software regardless if it’s second hand or not.
Their website is all going around in circles and bots. I hope you are right. He doesn’t have a transfer from the original owner so needs to get an unlock code.
Here’s what I followed to get a new license for my Maschine+ awhile back…
Agree. I recently bougth a second hand traktor kontrol, and the guy couldn’t help with the process.
I logged with my NI account, then > Support > Native Access. At the bottom of the page I started chatting with the bot, aswering some questions until a real human started chatting with me. From there it was just a matter of giving him the product serial and proof of legit trade and everything sorted out.
Good luck
it’s just repeatedly going around in circles back to the same “contact customer support” screen.
Isn’t it just a matter of buying the maschine software license?
That’s what it pretty much boils down too…
Afaik the software comes with the hardware. When buying a second hand NI hardware device the original owner needs to generate a transfer ID so the hardware ownership can be transferred to the new owner account.
When the original owner is not known or unreachable, you need to get in touch with NI support, a real human. She will ask for proof of purchase and if all is ok will move the hw serial over to your account. Then you also can download all the accompanying software.
The original owner also still keeps the software license btw. These are not transferred.
Hope this helps.
Thanks. I think it’s the getting hold of a real human that is the biggest part of the problem. The last couple of times I e-mailed customer support I got no reply at all and I eventually found the answer from a separate forum but this is obviously something which requires NI intervention.
It does. But the software can also be purchased separately. I had to leave mine in another country and instead of transferring my license i bought one for my nephew so he could just use it meanwhile. It’s €49.5 right now on sale here: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/maschine/maschine-accessories/maschine-2.0-software-update/
…once upon a time, ni was the pinacle of all sw progress…
Now they set the standard for how quickly and badly a company can turn to shit.
I think you mean Maschine mk3. Maschine 3 doesn’t exist afaik.
I’ve seen people have success getting a rep to solve the license issue via the forum. If it hasn’t been done already make a profile and create a post with your issue @Jeremy_NI in the post and direct message him. He’s a helpful moderator and official employee over there.
Theres SOOOOO many second hand units being pawned around that I’m positive they are inundated with similar messages and notifications so It may take a while (days, weeks) but they’ll get you sorted eventually without having to buy the software. It’s just that there simply aren’t a lot of people working at NI anymore and the company itself is a steaming pile of rubbish these days.
However, the mk3/plus are actually pretty great if you can get one that works set up properly.
